I like to think of movement as a gift I give to my body and mind every day. I live each day with gratitude that I can move without pain and with ease.
As someone with a degenerative disk injury in my lower back, when I was diagnosed 6 years ago I turned to yoga, pilates and strength training to heal my pain.
I encourage my clients, students and fellow women to find joy in movement each day. It's never too late to start moving!

March is !!!
As a Holistic Nutritionist in training (in the home stretch!) I wanted to share that while March is a special month to focus on what you put in your body...shouldn't we always want to feel our best, everyday?
I mean spring is in the air and you are probably thinking about March break or summer. But that shouldn't be your sole reason for wanting to feel great. Listen to your body and try to notice what makes your body feel great - every - single - day.
While the science has shown us that food is medicine and can keep us disease-free and feeling strong, energetic, vibrant...
..Remember that it isn't about judgment, morality, good vs. bad, it's about listening and observing to your body.
What are some nutrition goals you have for yourself this month to help your body feel well?
For me, I have added a greens powder to my water everyday this week to get more greens, vitamins and minerals, and water into my body.
What about you?
The space in between is where the growth and magic happens. It's where we learn to respond instead of reacting.
In yoga, I often queue students to find a pause in between their inhales and exhales. This is where the body is still and finds peace.
The same is true in our minds when we are called to an intense reaction. Being able to observe our anger, upset, sadness, frustration, grief ~ without reacting but rather to sit with the discomfort before responding ~ this is where we grow and find freedom.

Mastery. I spend time every morning before I start my work day learning a new skill or reading a book that elevates my skills.
Right now I’m reading book called Becoming Supernatural. It is fascinating. I’m also learning Spanish on . Hola!
Even just 10-15 minutes a day of Mastery can make a huge difference.

Habit Stacking. Not a new concept as it has been written about in many books lately. It is a way to stack up little habits every day that amount to a big change.
In this case, if you do all these little healthy habits and stack them up, ideally each day, then you will achieve a great outcome: GLOWING SKIN!

Looking for a holiday inspired appetizer? This one is so easy!
You take two packages of Boursin, stack them on top of each other inside Saran Wrap and form them into the shape of a Christmas tree with your hands.
Put back in fridge to keep it cold for 30mins.
Carefully remove from the wrap and place on a platter. Secure olives in place (they may require some toothpicks), add fresh rosemary to garnish and add your star to the top.
Keep cold until ready to serve.
Serve with crackers or French stick.

A new way to start each day that brings me so much joy!
My favourite thing on weekends is to read with a cup of coffee in my quiet house before anyone wakes up.
I realized a few weeks ago that if this brings me so much joy, why wouldn’t I start every single day this and make this special “me” time a priority.
Here’s my new morning ritual:

Read & drink coffee 7:15-8am
Shower & start my day

When you’re craving all the fall vegetables and decide to throw them all into a goddess bowl- this is what you get! 😍😊
Roasted butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, organic non-gmo tofu (the only kind you should eat), kale, avocado, brown rice, pumpkin seeds on top.
Let’s talk protein and soy for a moment. Can we?
We have 3 macronutrient categories of foods: protein, fats, carbs. Of those 3 the only ones that are essential to live are protein and essential fats. Not carbs?! Nope.
Amino acids from protein are required for every metabolic function in your body. It’s not just to build muscle for weight lifting or to avoid sarcopenia (muscle wasting).
To eat soy or not?
If you are plant based then you are looking to beans, nuts, legumes and possibly soy for your protein. In moderation when it is well sourced from fermented soy and/or organic, non-gmo soy then a little here or there should be fine (for most people unless you have an autoimmune thyroid disease).
Even with meat or fish protein you want to know your source (grass fed, antibiotic free, organic, wild caught, etc).
Bottom line is to build a bowl you will get pleasure from eating, and ticks all the boxes especially protein-rich and full of colour, fibre, healthy fats.
This is my happy place ~ the combination of sand in my toes and the sound of the sea ~ ahhh. I wish I was right here, right now but instead I can only dream about getting back to the beach in a few months time.
One of the things that I am a strong proponent of is celebrating your body in whatever shape or form it is, at this present moment. As a recovering perfectionist and a recovering Orthorexic, I have always struggled with all of my imperfections especially when in a bikini!
Cellulite on my thighs.
Thigh gap? Bahhhaha.
Loose skin on belly from having babies.
B***s losing their perk.
And on and on.
Sound familiar? It's so easy to criticize ourselves.
I'm not gonna lie. Every day is a struggle to love my body for exactly what it is. As a 51-year old woman I feel good, strong, able-bodied, pain-free. That's really all that matters to me at this point. I hear way too many stories of women who suffer with chronic pain and disease at my age or even younger.
Changing the narrative about your body is something that most women need to work on. Surround yourself with other women that celebrate and appreciate their body, without feeling a need to change it.
How can you start loving your body better today?
Celebrate all the things your body CAN do instead of what you feel it lacks or needs to change.
