From next Monday I will be doing a week of the magic circle to represent this years goal of enhancing creativity in workouts!

My teaching style revolves around amplifying basic movements with depth and personalisation. While the old me might argue that extra equipment isn't necessary, I'm exploring the magic circle, poles, balls, and weights to infuse creativity and intensity into classes.

Since returning to exercise from having a baby here are a few things I have learnt…

1: My body can’t move the way it used to move (yet) and there are exercises that are challenging me in a way I’ve never been challenged. This is frustrating yet so rewarding as I see progression daily

2: I have lost a lot of strength and have pain in a lot of places when doing exercises that I didn’t have before, but I am way more driven than I have ever been to recover from pregnancy and birth and find new strengths

3. I am so time poor, but I have a new ability to make time

4. Pregnancy is hard on the body (even more than i ever imagined) so let’s not be so hard on ourselves. Some people recover faster or slower than others so comparing serves your no good

I am really enjoying this journey and feel like I am now my own student - and from the bottom of my heart I apologise to everyone who has been tortured by me in the past 😂

Sometimes we may just find ourselves “having a day”… I personally cycle through these kinds of days all the time! Sometimes I know where it’s coming through and other times it’s the unknown blues that sneak into your life uninvited.

I like to think of these days at character building days… or just another test for myself as to how I can improve my tools for coping with lows.

I’d love to share some ways that’s I bring myself out of this state of mind that hopefully you will find useful to. Then maybe, like me, at the end of the day you feel stronger than you did at the start.

Change your state by changing your environment. Get up, shower, get dressed (maybe even a little nicer than usual) and put yourself in a physical environment with a lot of light and energy. Maybe you put music on or you go to a cafe for example.

Rid of the shame. Sometimes I roll my eyes at myself for feeling crap about something comical but this doesn’t change the way you feel. Acknowledge it and let it out- but don’t let it take over your day.

Act selfish. If you don’t feel like going to that event you already told your friends you would go to, then don’t do it. On days like this you owe nothing to anyone but you. Do the things that make you happy, even if that’s watching the tv with a bowl of popcorn!

“Your life doesn’t get better by chance. It gets better by change” - Jim Rohn.
For me, this quote is everything and I refer to it a lot! Sitting in your darkness and drowning yourself if your emotions only achieves one thing… more of the same. Decide on what you need to do to feel better and take action.

STRETCH !!

So many of us neglect stretching out our bodies .. how many times have you said “I really should stretch more”… but you never do. This is so common for many reasons. Time, boredom, pain or maybe it is just a lack of knowledge around the importance of stretching.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I could write a essay on why you should stretch every day but I wont bore you with that, so here is my executive summary…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Muscle tightness can pull joints off in the wrong direction and pull the body out of alignment.. it is the cause of so many injuries and little niggles. Furthermore, the pain that comes from tight muscles refers to different parts of the body which just makes every day life generally uncomfortable!
Your muscles might be tight from sitting/standing in the same position for a prolonged period of time or a repetitive movement

What is your BIG why?
Are you exercising for weight loss? to fit into a dress? to feel confident in a bikini? to be/feel desired? to get a six-pack? to build a KK bum? Because I can tell you right now these are not your WHY, these are OUTCOMES.... outcomes for some people... our genetic makeup has a huge impact on this as well so it can be super deflating when you are driven by physical outcomes that may not be your reality.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My “BIG why” I exercise is to LIVE A BETTER LIFE!
I get my Pilates in first thing in the morning and I fill myself up with energy for life as well as self-confidence (and not just physical!).
Exercising makes me want to go out and enjoy my day, visit friends, attend events and actually take part in my world. I am a happier person, I can deal with challenges more effectively and in a healthier manner, and I make better choices.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
THIS is motivating because it doesn’t matter what my genetic makeup is, I/you can achieve this. This is a why for ME and not a submission to a societal expectation. Focusing on these intangible drivers and outcomes are also much more effective drivers to continue exercising as the deliver them good HEAPS quicker then a KK bum.. and they feel WAY better! (not that I have experienced the latter 😂 🍑)

One of the most common points of feedback that I receive from my clients is how much harder Pilates is than they thought it would be; and how much stronger they feel in a short timeframe.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Following the technique taught/not taught in many group fitness classes, yes, the movements look and can be performed with ease, however, the pilates principles include "control", "precision", and "isolation". These three things alone create a more intense workout and help you achieve a greater and more noticeable outcome in your body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Living with gut problems… this sentence is so wrong, you don’t have to just “learn to live with them”!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I have always suffered from daily bloating and IBS. I’ve taken pre and pro biopics since before I can remember and constantly bounced between laxatives and Imodium just to help me gain a little control. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would consider myself well educated about food as I am lucky enough to work along side experts in cutting edge nutritional science delivering presentations around nutrition for health and healing… but unfortunately it’s not a one size fits all! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This year I (finally) went and saw a naturopath who has guided me through eliminating certain food groups to alleviate some of my symptoms and address the root cause of my gut issues. It’s been an extremely difficult process, but I cannot explain how much better I feel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m now re-introducing certain foods to explore exactly what I am intolerant to… and I’m very happy to announce that eggs are here to stay !!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My point is (long winded, I know) don’t become complaisant with feeling uncomfortable. Weather it’s gut health, extreme period pain, depression, anxiety, and something else… There are so many influences around us these days that say “it’s not that bad” and “it’s normal to feel like that”, but the matter of fact is if it doesn’t feel good then do something about it. Ask for help, reach out, take charge of your body and your life because you seriously deserve the best xox

I am so glad I was able to offer Personal Training at an affordable rate during lockdown and I am so grateful for the overwhelming support and my beautiful clients are working so hard every week.

Unfortunately I am almost at capacity and will need to end the sale at the end of the weekend.
