Maggie is our best mama ever! She calved just 10 months after her last. we’ve never had such a dependable mama. Her little man is going great. I’m ready for her to be our first grandma in the next few months.

Well, it’s been a busy busy week and I’m totally late getting baby pictures up. Peony had her 2nd calf on our farm this week. Little dude is doing great. As you can tell. She wasn’t ready to show him off yet.

Our little sick unnamed girl is definitely on the mend. Her big nasty thick black scab is starting to fall off naturally. It’s happening so fast that it worried me at first. Fresh healthy skin underneath pictures in comments for record and if anyone else goes through this.

Heck of a way to start our day! Already repopulating the fields. Vi had this little one this morning and being a great mama!

Bittersweet today. Took 15 members to 5-H auction including all of our spring bull calves, 2022 spring leftovers that are ready to breed and 3 mamas. It always pulls at my heart to see these babies leave, especially in big groups.

This little girl is shaved and back with mama. I opted for no bath due to the shave getting everything clean as possible. Covered it in bag balm to get the healing process started. She stood very still and allowed me to work on her, she showed her appreciation by licking my legs the entire time!

Mama has a hurt foot which we will look at, or attempt to tomorrow. But she’s nursing and baby ate a full meal. So thankful to get her on the right track.

I am filled with so much hope this morning. I’ve waited to post about this until there was hope….

I went to check on the cows yesterday and our sweet little girl that was born August 4 has the worst case of fly strike I can find on the internet. 3/4 of her body is damaged, dead, or rotten. we immediately separated her and made phone calls to our farmer friends on what to do. And turns out this is very common in summer calves, but also pretty rare considering summer calves are not ideal. We pumped her up with Draxxin, Penicillin, ivermectin and pour on. Her maggots were extreme and thick. I’m talking millions! And I’m all stages of life.

I hand picked as many off as possible and gave her a bottle with electrolytes and honey (for mouth pleasure). We had some pre arranged activities to attend to. So we said a prayer and let the meds go to work.

4 hours later, I go get her a bottle and every single maggot still on her poor little body is dead! No movement. She sucked a little and we applied some screw worm spray and let her be.

Now, this morning! I go to feed Charlie and her and she is mooing, and standing! And 99% of the maggots have fallen off! wow! What a good moment! She still doesn’t have an appetite but we are hopeful.

Later we plan to shave her to see the extent of the damage, bathe her and cover her in iodine to disinfect.

I’m not good with social but I will do my best to keep everyone as updated as I can!! I’ll post pictures in the comments.

36 hours of hunger strike and Charlie sucked down her first bottle. What a successful moment in time! The weight in my chest is lifted 🫠🐄

Everyone, meet Charlie. Charlie, meet everyone

This little girl was not in the play book… mama went to hamburger and she was too cute to send on. Now I have my very first bottle calf. She’s about a month old and learning a new life every moment.

Wrong breed, size, and program. But she’s so darn cute ☺️

My newest adventure: blackberries! picked about 4 qts and this is all the jam I was able to make. Although I’m very proud…. I wish it would have made more. Now what to do with the “guts”~ I’m thinking pie filling 🥰

Postponed moving the herd due to wednesdays baby. But today we had another fabulous surprise. I distracted mama while Will stole her baby and we baited mom over the the new field. I think everyone is happy with new grass and I got calf snuggles!!!!! This little girl needs a name! She’s mine forever. She’s red with white hairs peppered in.

Tribute to a life lost today. To the girl that was always the first to greet me. Always interested in what I was doing. Always demanding attention and extra treats. Always the one to get extra treatment. My favorite old girl lived the best life I could give her. And the one and only that could live up to her name. Nancy. Aka nosy Nancy.

That’s a wrap on our goat game for a while.

Well. Today marks the day of my insanity. 100… yes!! 100 Isaiah Browns were delivered today. They are a little rough around the edges, but with space and love they will flourish.
