Hello fans and friends, Theresa here. Today is the day Merle Haggard was born and the day that he died. Not too many people actually die on the day they were born, but he called it. He is missed every day by our family. I was blessed to have known him 25+ years, an experience I will never ever forget.

I know he is missed by so many people throughout the world. His music touched many hearts and continues to do so every day.

In Tennessee today is Merle Haggard Day. I think it should be a national holiday. Young and old alike loved his music. He had a way of taking life’s experiences and putting them to words so perfect, pairing it with melodies that could affect even the unaffected. He sang songs about everyday life. And Sang about things were not every day life, like prison.

For over a half a decade he traveled the world performing in every honky-tonk, barroom, theater and coliseum. You name it. Even for United States Presidents. Wherever he played he left a high mark on the wall. The life of the greatest honky-tonk singer of all times was not by any means easy, mainly because to be able to write the great songs that he did, he had to live them. Not not always the easy way.

So take a moment out of this day, Merle Haggard Day, and play your favorite song. Reach out and request from your local stations. And if he’s listening somewhere maybe he can hear us where he’s at. I’m sure he’ll get a smile on his face.
