TOOLS FOR MANAGING STRESS✨​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Stress is a physiological response to stressors. And we don’t always have control over WHAT those stressors are, but you do have control over HOW you handle them.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
✨This is important because that means YOU have the power to decide how you will handle your stress.✨​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Your body will react to stress. That’s the innate fight or flight system we have that’s designed to protect us. There are tools that can help us calm this response to move into the rest, digest, & reproduce side of the nervous system.​​​​​​​​

Your nervous system has two pedals –​​​​​​​​
🏃🏻‍♀️The gas = the sympathetic nervous system aka fight or flight​​​​​​​​
🧘🏻‍♀️The brake = the parasympathetic nervous system aka rest, digest, reproduce​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
The goal with stress tools is to have ways we can move from a heightened state of stress / alarm / anxiety and gently move into a calmer more restful state.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
It takes a little thinking ahead of time to create your toolkit. You want to know what things you can reach for when stress comes up because you’re not always going to be thinking super clearly in that moment.​​​​​​​​

Know that there are often things we have turned to to manage stress that may not be the most helpful long-term, like with alcohol, having an unhealthy relationship with food, completely zoning out on our phones, etc. With all of these it comes back to what is our intention behind the thing we are doing right now?​​​​​​​​

Sometimes the thing that has “worked” for a long time no longer is. So it’s really about creating new behaviors, routines, incorporating new tools to help the shift to a calmer state.​​​​​​​​
