As the 5th year anniversary of Berry Sweets by Jess is slowly approaching, I wanted to take the time to introduce myself for those who dont know me and tell you guys about how this little business started. My name is Jessica Ramos & im 30 years old with 2 beautiful children. In the beginning of 2019 my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic gastric cancer. He had to start chemo therapies right away which meant he had to stop working because of how sick he was. I ended up quitting my job at that time to help take care of my dad & take him to his chemo therapies. On one of those car rides to his therapies, I told him that I was thinking of selling treats every friday to help pay off some of my bills & whatever i needed for my babies.
My dad thought it was an amazing idea, and that same day, he took me to the store to buy containers etc. to start it off. He bought everything himself and told me that he would help with anything I needed as long as I didn’t give up on this. That same week I made my first sale. It started with chocolate covered strawberries, fresas con crema, pambazos, y ensalada de manzana. I started selling at my mom's job & my dad's job, & I slowly started making a lot of sells which was something that made me so happy & my dad as well. One night out of the blue I did a cake & not only did I love how it came out but I loved how much I enjoyed doing it . My first 2 sells were from my cousins & I never actually thanked them , because of them I got the courage to start offering cakes . So & . Thank you for being 2 of my very first customers 🥹💜. I honestly never thought I would get so much orders after that . My plans were never to make this a business because I was eventually gonna go back to work . My dad was always the one helping me with everything, from cutting ,prepping, to delivering my cake orders & From the bottom of my heart , I wanna thank those who met my dad along the way & were nice to him when he delivered . I remember when I got shirts made for me & my family & it’s funny because my dad would always put his on when it was time to deliver lol . I know there was days where he was so tired from his chemos but he would still go out & deliver these cakes . Fast forward to 2021 , a month after making my 2 year anniversary, he passed away . I was ready to give up my business, I was doubting myself . My dad always told me Que yo era una CHINGONA & was so proud of how far I came in less that 2 years & because of him & my promise to him , I’m still here thriving . I wanna thank all of you who have supported me from day 1 & those who have come along the way . I’ve made mistakes & have learned from them . Without mistakes there’s no learning & I’ve worked & still working so hard to correct my wrongs . I will forever be thankful for the ones who have supported, recommended, ordered, shared & loved my work , because of you guys , I still have so much hope that one day my small business will become a big one 💜🤞🏼
