Open 10-5 today and 12-5 tomorrow. Enjoy our monthly live jazz brunch tomorrow 12-3 (live band, mimosas, and pastries to accompany your shopping).
Was anyone else taken down by the plague after the holidays? Coming off of my third week being sick, I haven't been able to get to the shop at all. My spaces look terrible, but that's okay because it's CLEARANCE WEEKEND.
Come buy ALL THE THINGS. Help us make room for new inventory!

Showing a little more love to this piece - the first piece that I ever flipped for profit. I paid $1 at Goodwill and sold it for $130 on marketplace. It was such a find! The only repair that it needed was a replacement of the wire mesh in the door. I refinished this while I was struggling to get through the final paper of my dissertation. I couldn't find motivation anywhere, and I very seriously considered just not finishing it at all. I started painting furniture as an outlet for the stress of being in a PhD program that I hated, that felt pointless, and that made me feel worthless. I'm very glad that I ultimately did decide to finish my dissertation and earn my doctorate, but I can't imagine doing it without the creative outlet of refinishing furniture. It was also so rewarding to sell my first piece and be validated for my work!
Some pics of my space at Shiplap & Chandeliers - I'm definitely chasing that spring floral vibe!
Minty green has always been one of my favorite colors. This was actually a blend of two colors. They have such a beautiful palette of greens. I know it's technically still winter, but I wanted to bring some notes of spring into my space at . What do you think, is it too early to start thinking about spring?

Shiplap & Chandeliers and Out Of the Closet - Eclectic Marketplace will be featured on WBZ tomorrow. See what we're all about. I spy Breana Pitts chilling in one of my Bulldog Vintage Design chairs next to my vintage children's books.
I don't advertise a lot of the stuff that I sell because it's so eclectic. I try to focus on the furniture on my social media. I curate out of print children's and young adult books from the '80s and '90s because hunting for these books is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Every now and then, it sparks a great conversation with a customer, like the woman who came in the other day and picked out some Pen Pals, Camp Sunnyside Friends, and Girl Talk books for her daughter. She was thrilled that I had not one but two copies of her (and my) favorite book from childhood, Behind the Attic Wall. Books bring people together, and I love sharing my passion for the nostalgia of my youth.
This Wednesday! Learn the basics of chalk-style paint with me at . We'll go over basic supplies, techniques, and differences between brands and styles of paint. It's the perfect beginner class for aspiring painters.
So many shoppers at Shiplap & Chandeliers and Out Of the Closet - Eclectic Marketplace ask if we offer classes. We do! And I'm teaching one next Wednesday on the basics on chalk paint. It's the type of paint that a lot of furniture painters use, and it's the style of paint I used in all the pieces shown here.
In the class, I'm going over the most basic info about chalk paint, and I'm bringing in all of my tools and supplies so people can see what I'm talking about. I'm going to cover topics like:
*what does "chalk paint" refer to?
*what are the pros and cons of using this style of paint?
*what are the most popular brands and how do they compare (you'll get to try them all in the class)
*what kinds of brushes and other materials do you need to get started?
*how can I make my own chalk-type paint with supplies at home?
*is it true that there's no prep work required? (spoiler-- it depends)
*do I need to seal my piece?
I'm bringing tons of must-have products and brands of paint for you to sample and a variety of surfaces on which to practice. The store will provide snacks and sips, as well as the opportunity to shop while you're there, if you want to.
Next Wednesday, September 21, 6:30-8 (but you can come at 6 to snack and shop) in the cafe at Out of the Closet. Sign up at shiplap-chandeliers.com/events, and see all the other classes that we're offering this month.
Very pretty mirror-top antique vanity for sale at Shiplap & Chandeliers . 30" x 18" and 35" tall. It was maintained in very good condition and just needed a fresh coat of paint and some new crystal k***s. The mirrored top has some very faint surface level scratches but they don't affect the use of the piece. $175.

Might I recommend this cute pink armoire/cabinet with new modern brass handles? $350, 55 in tall, 31 in wide, 17 in deep. Interior shelves and 2 large drawers. The original backing was cardboard so we replaced it with stylish and sturdy bead board.

I love a quick and dramatic transformation of a small wooden chest. I forgot to take a before picture so just picture this looking much more orange and without the cute hardware. I love this perfect shade of creamy white, Vanilla Frosting by
My favorite things to paint are small wooden pieces like this one. This little chest of drawers went from ugly orange to creamy farmhouse white with bronze cup pulls and library file tags. A little bit of distressing along the edges for that lived-in look.
There's no such thing as too chippy. π This hutch was actually in pristine condition but was just a little outdated and dark. Some in Oh Olive lightened it up and gave it more of a farmhouse vibe. I removed the top piece, cleaned the hutch really well, and didn't do anything else to prep before applying the milk paint. I sealed it with some wood polish to bring out that beautiful luster and I cleaned the interior with Feed and Wax. Even though the original hardware does not go with the farmhouse vibe, I loved the lions too much to change them out. Thank you so much for donating this old hutch. I had so much fun creating this totally rustic look!
For sale this weekend at . I didn't have a tape measure so I don't have exact dimensions, but I'd estimate 6 ft tall x 3.5 ft wide x 1 ft deep.

Ahhhhh my customer sent me this photo of the sink in her bathroom and it could not look more perfect!! I loved the light aqua color that I had originally painted it, but that would have created a much more rustic look in the bathroom. The white is so elegant but farmhouse-y at the same time. I used in Victorian Lace, which has a built-in topcoat, but I added a few coats of poly since it'll be exposed to water.
Sink/potting stand is complete! I used milk paint in Sweetwater, which is such a cheerful blue-green, perfect to show off your spring florals. The mirror and towel rack on top of the sink chipped beautifully. I finished it off with dark wax and highlighted the hardware with gilding wax. It just makes me happy.
My beautiful, amazing friends and .mou gifted me some truly gorgeous pieces of furniture from their uncle's collection. I struggled for so long just deciding how I wanted to paint them. Then I had to move them up from the basement so I could work on them... so far I have a plan for all of them but have only brought one piece up from the basement. Here it is! I finally decided that I wanted a rich, deep blue-green with gold highlights in the carved details. I couldn't find the exact shade of green that I wanted, so I ended up blending 4 colors, starting with a navy blue, then dark green, then teal, then light green. I finished it off with some dark wax and gilding wax. I know this style is not for everyone, but I love the bold colors and unique design. Leigh and Alyssa, I hope I did this piece justice for your uncle - not sure if he'd love it or hate it! thank you for trusting me with your brother's beautiful furniture. And enjoy the photo bomb by my lovely painting assistant, Bella.
Customer bought this dresser and requested it be painted white. I like a white piece of furniture but this one was just screaming blue to me. What do you think? Blue or white?
Available this weekend at Shiplap & Chandeliers!
Story time. I started refinishing furniture because we had a lot of outdated but high-quality pieces left at my grandmother's house and I thought I could do something with them. I was in the process of finishing my dissertation and completing my PhD and also relocating back to the east coast. As I was settling in and job searching, we began to hear about disease outbreaks on cruise ships and the possibility that we might enter a lock down period in the US. Not a great time to be looking for a new job, especially in the field of education, where schools were looking at the possibility of going fully remote. I just wasn't prepared to handle that coming out of my PhD program. So I kept refinishing furniture, feeling soothed and inspired by the process of creating something useful and beautiful with my hands. This dresser is one of the pieces from my grandmother's house. The drawers are sanded down to a glass-like smoothness. The regal blue and new drawer pulls bring a touch of modern to this mid-century piece. And it's available! DM for info.
New pieces to help you capture that "I-have-it-all-together" vibe. Available at Salvage Angel, open tomorrow 12-6 and this weekend 10-6.
Holiday signs are restocked at Salvage Angel ! Message me if you want me to set one aside for you or to arrange a pickup. I have time for a few custom orders too.
