My most recent project and the thing that has been taking all of my time lately. Super fun project and so worth all of the work to have fresh homemade maple syrup for our pancakes! 🥞
What does it mean to you to live a healthy life?
To be active?
To eat well?
To be genuinely happy?
To enjoy your work?
To have good relationships?
To have hobbies you enjoy?
You don’t have to make it difficult. Simply recognize what makes you feel like the healthiest version of yourself and focus your energy in those areas.
You don’t have to do everything “right” all the time. Figure out what is important to you and make a plan to start working towards those things.
Where the heck have I been?!?
First of all everywhere! This summer was a super exciting and hectic one for me. I managed to take 5 trips in 4 months including…
- Glacier National Park
- Up North WI w/Family
- Tour around Spain
- Star Lake Camping x 2
I can’t begin to describe how lucky I feel to have been able to do all of these things and spend so much time exploring new places and enjoying some of my favorite go-to vacation spots.
Coming off of this summer a bit dazed but super excited about exploring and seeing even more new places in the near future!

Using up some apples from the orchard!
Picked a few too many at the orchard so decided to try dehydrating them. Sliced them up and threw them in the dehydrator. Super simple way to preserve them and they came out tasting great!
It has been a long time coming! Jon and I have been planning a truck camper build for over a year.
Our original plan was in an entirely different truck with a different topper. We fixed up the topper but never had the chance to camp in it. (Summer 2021)
Fast forward to 2022. We spent the winter researching and planning what we wanted our truck camper to look like. I think we watched every truck camper build there was on YouTube. Come spring we decided to just go for it!
The build went great! I don’t know if we will ever be finished with it because we are always thinking of upgrades…but it worked great for all of our summer adventures!
We spent weeks in it on family camping trips, it housed us on our up north duck hunting trip, and it has allowed us to pick up and go wherever we want whenever we want!
Moral of the story..just keep working! Never give up on something that you are passionate about, even if it takes a little longer than you wanted.
Quick trip up north. Fall colors were just starting to peek through and the weather was perfect!
Never underestimate the power of getting outside.
I know I know, you have probably heard this a million times. However, within the past couple of days I have really noticed how spending just a little bit of time outside can completely change my mood.
If I find myself feeling a little off I make myself get up off the couch and go for a walk or a sit in my hammock. The fresh air and sunshine helps my body physically but also mentally by getting myself out of my own head and into the real world around me.
What is your favorite thing to do outside?
Hello hello! Hope you all had a great weekend and start to your week!
This week I have been spending a BUNCH of time outside and preparing for the summer! I have some super exciting things happening this summer and can’t wait to share my adventures on here!
A really big part of my life is spending time outside in the summer camping and hiking. This is something that I plan to do a bunch this summer and I want to show how I do all of these things and maintain a healthy lifestyle. You can incorporate healthy habits into your life no matter what it looks like!
What do you have planned for the summer? And big plans or goals? What healthy habits are you currently implementing?
Am I working out enough?
How much do I need to workout to actually see progress?
These are super common questions that we often ask ourselves when we are just starting our fitness journey. It can be really easy to want to go crazy with your workouts when you are just getting started because you are feeling the excitement and motivation that comes along with starting something new.
Without knowing your health history, fitness background, etc. the best advice I can give when it comes to how much you should be working out is to use the principles of MINIMUM EFFECTIVE DOSE.
This essentially means make the SMALLEST CHANGE possible that still ELICITS A RESPONSE from your body.
If you start out doing no exercise and suddenly start high-intensity exercise 5 days a week, your body will be initially shocked (and you may see a change in your body) but it will quickly adapt to this new level of activity and now you will have to exercise HARDER or LONGER to continue seeing change. These big changes will eventually add up to having to exercise crazy hard or for crazy amounts of time just to maintain your current fitness level. This is simply not sustainable long-term.
A more sustainable approach is to employ MINIMUM EFFECTIVE DOSE. This invovles slowly introducing (in this case) more exercise up until the point where you notice a change. Maybe you go from no exercise to light exercise 2 days a week. You beign to notice a change in how you are feeling and maybe see a slight change in your weight. You would continue here until you feel you are starting to plateau (indicating that your body is adapting), in which case you would slightly increase the duration or intensity of the exercise to elicit a new response from your body. This format allows you to increase your fitness level while only making small sustainable changes to your lifestyle.
Questions? Let’s chat about it!
You simply cannot expect something to change if you are not willing to change any of your actions.
Today is the day to stop talking about it and start taking action.
Start with one small behavior change that will get you one step closer to where you want to be.
What is something that you want to improve in your life and what are you going to do TODAY to change it?
My current health and fitness goals…
My current goals are based on my summer plans to spend a bunch of time camping, exploring and hiking!
Jon and I are planning to spend some time out west hiking and backpacking, and I want to be ready to face any hike that we come across. I never want my opportunities to be limited by what my body is capable of.
I would call this goal a PERFORMANCE based goal. I am not super concerned about losing weight or recomping my body, I just want to be able to perform my best.
I personally love performance based goals becuase it takes the scale and the mirror out of it. Instead of focusing on how I am LOOKING, I am focusing on what I am able to DO.

Guide to...HEALTHY GROCERY SHOPPING!
Have you ever found yourself thinking...
- I don't have food at home but I don't know what to buy
- I just went shopping but we don't have any food
The biggest tip I have for a successful shopping trip is to PREPARE beforehand!
There are a few steps you can take to set yourself up for success before you head to the grocery store.
- Eat Before You Go
- Workout Before You Go (or do another healthy habit)
- Plan your Dinners for the Week
Grocery shopping can be wayyyyy less stressful and even enjoyable if you prepare beforehand!
HELLO SPRING…well, kind of.
It has cooled down again since the beautiful weather this last weekend, but either way it was enough to encourage me to GET OUTSIDE!
Jon and I found a new trail that we had never hiked before which was really cool!
I find that spending time outside is really important for my mental health and this is something that I often struggle with in the winter time.
Anyone else feel like after a long winter the warm spring days GIVE YOU LIFE? I definitely notice a change in my mood when I get a nice day to get outside.
It is extremely important that you work things into your daily and weekly routine that contribute to your mental health.
If you have been feeling stuck or feel like you have been on autopilot…it is time to make a change. Do something today to contribute to your mental and physical health!
Need some ideas or direction…DM me!
Are you AIMLESSLY exercising?
- Maybe you find yourself walking into the gym and randomly hopping from machine to machine
- Maybe you come in with a plan but end up doing something completely different
While any movement is generally better than no movement, being intentional with your exercise can provide greater results than aimlessly exercising. If you feel like your exercise routine doesn't have much structure...it may be time for a change.
One of the biggest things that can help you to exercise more intentionally is to have a GOAL.
This will help you CREATE your exercise plan and MEASURE your progress. If you don't create an exercise plan based on your goals you may not make progress in the direction that you desire. It is also pretty hard to notice progress if you don't have a goal for reference.
I know that I have been struggling with this lately and this is pretty common a few months into the new year as we start to lose sight of our new years goals. I am going to take some time to review my goals for the year and revise if necessary. (it is okay to change your goals as your life changes). I encourage you to do the same and share your goals with me this FRIDAY as I share my goals and my plan to exercise more intentionally.
Don't let your yesterday determine your today
One of the most important things that I believe is a crucial step in continuing to progress in fitness and in life is to NOT dwell on the past. We have such limited time and energy to use each day, there is no use in wasting it on something that we can't change. Instead, put that time and energy towards changing your TODAY and taking action towards the things that you are truly wanting!
Have you been putting effort towards reaching your goals lately? If not, what can you do to change that answer TODAY?
Our lives are driven by habits and routine.
Most of our days look pretty similar because there are certain things that we have come to do every day, creating habits and routine. Having habits and routine is not inherently a bad thing. However, there is the chance for unhealthy or unhelpful actions to become habits and fixtures in your routine.
It is not bad to have a few cookies at lunch to celebrate a co-workers birthday. However, if you had a few cookies at lunch everyday, that may make it difficult to reach your goals and may have negative health effects.
Now lets think about it the other way. Lets say you went for a walk after work one day. It felt really great to move your body and allowed you to clear your head. Going for one walk is great, but it is likely not going to make a big difference in your fitness or health. However, if you decide to go for a walk after work everyday (or most days) and make it a habit, you will reap the physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise.
Habits are not inherently bad. However, it is important to evaluate whether your habits are helping or hurting progress towards your goals.
Here are some daily habits that I find contribute positively towards my health and fitness goals.
What are some daily habits that you already have or would like to adopt?
One thing that I have learned throughout my time in the fitness space is the strength of our minds.
Our mind is so POWERFUL that it can STOP our body from doing something that we ARE physically able to do. I know that I have given up on a lift I should have been able to do or stopped running a few minutes early because my head was telling me to stop. We have all been there. The good thing about this realization is that the opposite is true as well.
Our mind can also be so POWERFUL that it can convince us to KEEP GOING even when something is mentally tough.
If we choose to, we can allow our mind to recognize when something is hard, but not let that stop us from pushing through. Mental strength comes into play in many different parts of our lives.
If you gave up everytime that things got hard where would you be a month from now...a year from now? More importantly, where would you be if you stood strong and continued to work hard even when things got tough?
WELCOME TO 2022! Here are some of the intentions I have set for myself in 2022. At the end of the year I like to look back on these things and see if I achieved any of them. I try not to put too much pressure on myself with these intentions, but I think the New Year is a great time to reset…to make sure I am moving in the right direction.
I don’t have any specific fitness or health goals, but a few of my goals will require me to be in shape and in good health.
If you find that when you set a goal to be a certain weight or to look a certain way you give up, try setting a performance related goal. Pick something that you want to be able to DO and make that your goal!
Whether you are going into the new year with solid New Years resolutions and a plan to achieve them, or you are not quite sure what this new year is going to bring…go at it with confidence and belief in yourself!
I just ran across the goals that I set for 2021 and it was very interesting to read. There were some that I did not even come close to achieving. But there were some that I achieved…and that felt awesome!
I personally think it is worth it for me to set some broad goals for the new year. I try not to overcommit myself to doing something every day. This will just lead me to falling short and giving up completely.
Tomorrow I will share my 2022 goals and how I go about creating them!
Resolutions are not for everyone, and that is okay. However, if resolutions are your thing GO FOR IT!
