Hey BODIbeauties,

Why should you exfoliate?

Exfoliating gives you a natural glow by scrubbing away dead skin cells and clogged pores. Exfoliating helps stimulate blood circulation, it breathes new life into your skin.
The exfoliating process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin using a chemical, granular substance or exfoliation tool.
Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells to make room for new cells every 30 days or so.
Sometimes, dead cells don’t shed completely. This can result in dry, flaky patches and clogged pores. Exfoliating can help prevent this.
Regular exfoliation can also help prevent clogged pores, resulting in fewer breakouts.
Long-term exfoliating can increase collagen production. Collagen is key to glowing vibrant skin. This protein also promotes skin elasticity, minimizing the appearance of fine lines.

Did you know this about Himalayan Salt? 🤔

Himalayan salt is a rock salt that comes from the Punjab region of Pakistan. Mined in the foothills of the Himalayas, Himalayan salt contains dozens of trace minerals that give it its rosy hue. Studies show that it is one of the purest salts available.

Himalayan salt bath.
Salt and mineral baths are a great way to relieve sore or cramped muscles. Mineral baths make it easy for our bodies to absorb the magnesium and other trace minerals in the salt, which can fortify bones and connective tissue that may be contributing to soreness.

Himalayan salt comes in a variety of colors, including white, pink, and orange. The color content of the salt is determined by the amount of trace minerals it contains. These include potassium, iron, calcium, and magnesium.
There are many health claims made about Himalayan salt. Advocates and marketers sometimes say it contains 84 minerals, thus making it healthier than other types of salt.
In fact, Himalayan salt is similar to regular table salt in chemical composition. Both contain approximately 98 percent sodium chloride. Himalayan salt’s remaining 2 percent contains very small amounts of many minerals, some of which have health benefits.

Benefits of Himalayan Salt Baths
Lowers Blood Pressure
Support Weight Loss
Balances hormones
Improves circulation
Enables the body to detox
Promotes better skin hydration, leaving
it softer and smoother
Helps heal and bring relief to irritating and painful skin conditions
Helps relax and provide relief to cramped muscles

HISTORY OF EUCALYPTUS OIL

Australia is the origin and the leading source of Eucalyptus Oil, the Eucalyptus tree and its essential oil production spread to other parts of the world including Brazil, Europe, Greece, China, and India. It was used for its disinfectant and expectorant properties in Chinese, Greek, European, and Ayurvedic medicine. Of the 700 species of Eucalyptus throughout the world, approximately 500 of them produce an essential oil, and global Eucalyptus Oil production is mainly from the Eucalyptus globulus species, more commonly known as “Blue Gum.” In the 1880s, surgeons began using Eucalyptus Oil in operations due to its antiseptic properties. Today, Eucalyptus continues to be a popular essential oil that is used in v***r rubs, rash creams, inhalers and ointments to support the respiratory system, and to soothe physical discomforts.

BENEFITS AND USES OF EUCALYPTUS OIL
Eucalyptus Essential Oil’s active chemical components contribute to its reputation as a purifying, cleansing, clarifying, and immune-boosting oil that is ideal for use on skin and in aromatherapy. It is known for its ability to reduce or eliminate harmful surface and airborne bacteria, and infections upon contact. It facilitates easy breathing, enhances feelings of relaxation, creates a refreshing feeling when used in massages, soothes nervous tension, and helps clear the mind, among its various other benefits. These healing benefits can be attributed to the oil’s anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, decongestant, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, and stimulating qualities, among other valuable properties.

Used in aromatherapy, the cooling scent of Eucalyptus Essential Oil is known to relieve mental exhaustion by boosting circulation to the brain, thereby stimulating the mind out of sluggishness, and rejuvenating the spirit. Those suffering from sinus congestion can diffuse Eucalyptus Essential Oil in the bedroom throughout the night to clear nasal passages and to eliminate harmful airborne bacteria that contribute to the feeling of being unwell.
Eucalyptus Oil effectively removes grease and grime, making it an excellent cleaning product for the kitchen. It may also be mixed-in with homemade hand soaps and laundry detergents. Added to natural homemade sprays as a cleaning agent, it can be used for washing toilet bowls, floors, countertops, and windows, just to name a few surfaces. The clean scent makes an effective fabric freshener, and it can be mixed with Lemon or Tea Tree Essential Oils, diluted with water, then applied to odorous materials such as the insides of shoes. Furthermore, as an air cleanser, Eucalyptus Oil is beneficial for eliminating mold that could contribute to respiratory issues.
When used cosmetically to nourish hair, Eucalyptus Essential Oil will moisturize an itchy scalp and remove dandruff flakes. As a natural insecticide, it is even known to have the ability to eliminate lice. This germicidal oil’s antiseptic properties make it a popular choice for use on wounds, cuts, burns, bites, stings, and sores. Besides soothing the irritated skin, it relieves pain, protects any openings from becoming infected, and promotes faster healing. Added to warm baths, Eucalyptus Essential Oil’s analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties help to rejuvenate stiff and sore muscles.

HISTORY OF CLARY SAGE OIL

Derived from the celebrated medicinal Salvia sclarea herb, which is native to Italy, Southern France, and Syria, Clary Sage Oil receives its name from the Latin word “clarus,” meaning “clarifying” or “cleansing.” Historically, the seeds of this plant were believed to contribute to the health of the eyes and to improve vision, hence it earned a name meaning “clear eye” or “bright eye.”
Although it is largely used in the flavoring of food, beverages, and in perfumery, Clary Sage Essential Oil came to be used in natural cosmetics for its ability to soothe skin. In medicinal applications, it was known to address female hormone-related complaints, such as nervous tension and mood swings, hence earning another nickname: “The Woman’s Oil.” Having traditionally been used to flavor Muscatel Wine, the sweetly herbaceous extract also earned the name Muscatel Oil.

HISTORY OF YLANG YLANG

Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) comes from an attractive yellow-flowered tree which is found in the Far East particularly in the rain forests of certain Asian and South Pacific islands such as Comoro, Indonesia, Philippines, Java, Sumatra and Polynesia. The oil is obtained from the tree’s yellow flowers and used mainly in aromatherapy and toiletries but also in traditional medicine - oh and of course two of my candles! The flowers are removed from the tree and the oil is carefully distilled using a specialised steaming process. The oil is then divided into four different grades (I, II, III and Extra) which determine the strength of the scent. So, the shorter the distillation process, the more intense the aroma. Ylang Ylang essential oil is intensely sweet, highly floral and ethereal. This powerful scent really soothes the spirit.
So now you all know where it comes from and how the oil is extracted, more importantly, what can it do for you?

BENEFITS AND USES OF YLANG YLANG

Ylang Ylang Is An Aphrodisiac!

YLANG YLANG affects emotional balance, and the cardiovascular and hormonal systems. It is known as one of the most powerful essential oil aphrodisiacs because it influences sexual energy and enhances relationships. It encourages a more sensual and erotic experience. Ylang Ylang can also help with impotence and a low libido because, like rose oil, it supports the circulatory system.

It’s A Stress And Depression Reliever!

Ylang Ylang essential oil can relieve depression in humans and is, therefore, often used in aromatherapy. It fights depression and relaxes the body, thereby driving away anxiety, sadness, and chronic stress. It also has an uplifting effect on the mood and induces feelings of joy and hope. It may be an effective treatment for those undergoing nervous breakdowns and acute depression after a shock or an accident.

It’s An Antiseptic!

Research suggests that the essential oil of ylang-ylang can help avoid both sepsis and tetanus by inhibiting microbial growth and disinfecting the wounds. This property also protects wounds from infections of bacteria, viruses, and fungus. It also speeds up the healing process of the wound.

It Helps As A Sleep Aid!

Ylang Ylang has many relaxing properties that are used to help insomnia. Because of its sedative nature It calms and reduces nerves and anxiety to induce a deeply relaxed state and can, in many cases, help those who suffer from sleeplessness enjoy hours of blissful snoozing! Place a couple of drops on your pillow and see if it works for you.

It Relieves Eczema!

Antiseborrheic
Seborrhea or Seborrheic Eczema is a health condition that is caused due to malfunctioning sebaceous glands. This disorder results in irregular sebum production and the consequent infection of the epidermal cells. It looks very painful, since the white or pale yellow skin, whether it is dry or greasy, starts peeling off. This normally happens on the scalp, cheeks, eyebrows and wherever else hair follicles are found.
It also helps reduce acne, dermatitis and skin irritations by regularizing the sebum production and treating the infection itself.

HISTORY OF CHAMOMILLE

Chamomile is one of the most ancient medicinal herbs known to mankind. It is a member of Asteraceae/Compositae family and represented by two common varieties. German Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) and Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile). The dried flowers of chamomile contain many terpenoids and flavonoids contributing to its medicinal properties. Chamomile preparations are commonly used for many human ailments such as hay fever, inflammation, muscle spasms, menstrual disorders, insomnia, ulcers, wounds, gastrointestinal disorders, rheumatic pain, and hemorrhoids. Essential oils of chamomile are used extensively in cosmetics and aromatherapy.

USES OF CHAMOMILLE

Used in everything from cosmetics to aromatherapy to beverages, calming chamomile has been around for ages, dating back thousands of years, at least to ancient Egyptian times. The daisy-like flowering plant comes from the Asteraceae family of plants (which also includes sunflowers, Echinacea and marigold) and is most famously known as a relaxing herb.

BENEFITS OF CHAMOMILLE

HISTORY OF LAVENDER OIL

Lavandula angustifolia, better known as Lavender, is a perennial evergreen plant that has produced the most used essential oil in the world for over 2500 years. Thriving in oceanic climates with dry, rocky, sandy terrain, Lavender can be found in the Mediterranean region, Europe, Africa, the Canary Islands, the Middle East, and India.
The name Lavender is believed to be derived from the Latin word “lavare,” meaning “to wash,” as it was often used in baths and laundry for its fragrant properties. With a calming, physically and emotionally balancing fragrance, it has commonly been used for its relaxing effects on the body.

USES OF LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

The uses for Lavender essential oil are abundant, ranging from medicinal and odorous to cosmetic. Its many forms include oils, gels, lotions, soaps, shampoos, sprays, and candle making.
Used in aromatherapy, the fragrance is inhaled and scent receptors in the brain’s emotional powerhouse process the smell as calming, allowing the brain and body to relax. Similarly, a few drops smoothed onto a pillow may promote faster onset of deeper sleep with a decreased number of sleep disturbances. Its ability to reduce emotional stress such as anxiety and its potency in alleviating headaches also extends to its ability to reduce feelings of motion sickness and to improve the mood.

BENEFITS OF LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

When used in aromatherapy, this mild sedative is reputed to reduce stress by relaxing the brain waves, which is also said to reduce cortisol levels that contribute to the stress hormone. As cortisol leads to lower immunity, Lavender would accordingly support the immune system by helping relieve feelings of stress that can weaken health. Lavender is believed to help balance hormones, to reduce feelings of nervous tension, and based on empirical evidence, has worked to reduce feelings of depression for some individuals. As a Licensed Massage Therapist, I was given the opportunity to experience this first hand. I was able to used massage therapy and essential oils on patients suffering from depression and anxiety for 11yrs and I can honestly say that the use of Lavender and other essential oils had a calming and relaxing effect. It's by no means a cure but it did give them a sense of peace for a moment in time. It served as a catalyst, in conjunction with the medical doctor's expertise, with the patient's treatment process. This calming and relaxing property, can also work as a sleep aid for those suffering from insomnia.

Tomorrow, I will discuss Chamomille Essential oil...

Did you know...🤔

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants.
The oils capture the plant's scent and flavor, or "essence."
Unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence.
Essential oils are obtained through distillation (via steam and/or water) or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing.
Once the aromatic chemicals have been extracted, they are combined with a carrier oil to create a product that's ready for use.
The way the oils are made is important, as essential oils obtained through chemical processes are not considered true essential oils.

I will be featuring a different essential
oil each day for the next two weeks. I will define each essential oil and their benefits. Tomorrow I will start with the Lavender essential oil...😊
