BROWN N PROUD 👊🏽🤎 On Aug. 29, 1970, in East Los Angeles, more than 20,000 Chicano and Latino people marched in protest against the Vietnam War as part of the National Chicano Moratorium Movement. The aim of the march was to bring attention to the disproportionate percentage of Chicanos being killed daily in the war. On the same day, Ruben Salazar, a civil rights activist and a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, the first Mexican-American journalist from mainstream media to cover the Chicano community was killed during the Moratorium. 🕊

SERGIO BENÍTEZ AKA FRAY TORMENTA, THE REAL PEOPLES CHAMP AKA THE REAL NACHO LIBRE 🏆💪🏽🤎 Sergio Gutierrez Benitez, the inspiration for the movie NACHO LIBRE 💪🏽 Born in 1945 in Hidalgo MX, Sergio was the second youngest of 17 siblings. He had a very tough upbringing which led him to become an alcohol!c and dr*g add!ct. Sergio tried to get better by seeking help from the church but the church turned him down because “they weren’t a rehab.” Sergio’s addiction continued and as years went by he really liked watching Mexican films from 1963, one movie called “El Señor Tormenta” which was about a priest who secretly worked as a wrestler to provide for an orphanage. This inspired Sergio to turn that movie into his real life. Sergio changed his name to FRAY TORMENTA and did exactly as the movie did. In Texcoco, MX he became a priest, and worked part time as a wrestler to provide for his orphanage since the diocese didn’t want to fund his operation and although the church and people didn’t agree with his ways, he continued doing it for the children and his story became the hit movie that is globally loved, NACHO LIBRE. And although Fray is now retired from professional wrestling, he currently still works at the orphanage as a priest and has inspired one of his children to take up his mask and mantle so that the legend FRAY TORMENTA can live on. 🤼💪🏽🤎
