We are beyond delighted by the announcement today! It’s an important first step in advancing women’s health in NS.

Nearly 350,000 women in Nova Scotia are managing menopause, post-menopause or approaching menopause. We're ensuring these women have the attention they deserve from our healthcare system by providing improved access to specialized care with Canada’s first-ever Menopause Centre of Excellence.

“This is an important step forward for women to be treated with relevant care through midlife and the menopause transition. This commitment will have life-changing impacts on Nova Scotia women’s health and wellbeing,” said Dr. Shawna O’Hearn and Dr. Maria Migas, co-founders of the Menopause Society of Nova Scotia.

A re-elected PC government will Make It Happen for Healthcare.

While Menopause Hormone Therapy is an effective treatment for menopause-related symptoms, not all women have symptoms requiring treatment or are able to take MHT (e.g. with past breast cancer). Also, as of now, there is no robust evidence to support MHT for the prevention of cardiovascular disease, dementia or other age-related conditions (e.g. skin changes). See the recent statement by The Menopause Society (formerly North American Menopause Society) below:
