Sew Nice Quilts
Quilt piecing and longarm quilting services located in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
I started this quilt about 2 years ago… between kids, life, and other hired quilting projects I finally told myself about 5 months ago that my goal was to get it completed for the Becker county fair. Last summer life got ahead of me and I did not submit a quilt. So…I started gaining momentum but this quilt was taking a lot longer than I had anticipated! Over the past few weeks and months I’ve had to kind of neglect the kitchen mess, putting away laundry, you know…but I did it! A shout out to my wonderful husband who helps me make time for quilting and has definitely taken the kids off my hands (out of the house) more than a few times while I feverishly went at this thing- especially the last week while it was on my longarm. I finished hand sewing the binding at 10:30 pm on Tuesday night and I submitted it 8:30 am on Wednesday! Deadlines are not a bad thing. Moms, I tell you, the house mess- always there. Make time for your passions, too. Having personal goals is just as important as anything else in your life. Your children will respond so well to seeing you do YOUR thing. Nina, my 7 year old, came with me submit my quilt. We’ve done some sewing together- she’s not super into it and that’s ok. She knows it’s my thing and if she wants to learn I’ll be ready to teach her!
Another day of quilting and also not taking myself too seriously😂 I might be making progress. Or maybe tomorrow I’ll start all over again with something else. Either way I’m having a great time but I’m also kind of missing my kids! Hang on guys, mommy’s coming! One more big day of mind-blowing stripes. Guillermo, pack the bags- we’re going to be making a trip to Guatemala because, you guessed it! I ran out of fabric!

I’ve been given a wonderful opportunity to broaden my quilting horizons at the . Ever since my husband first took me to Guatemala back when we were dating I have been in love with Guatemala. I have always loved perusing fabrics and the textiles in Guatemala have no comparison. For years I dreamt of learning to quilt and finally 4 years ago I had the chance. I learned some basic quilting techniques including how to use a sewing machine (!!) and I have never looked back. Now here I am learning some truly remarkable techniques using Guatemalan fabric which is already an art in and of itself. Pictures don’t do justice to just what is going on in this room of talented sewists but safe to say there’s some pretty good quilting mojo going on. Shout out to Guillermo for taking on single fatherhood for the week. The kids are looking happy, clean, and fed when we FaceTime. Empty spools 2024 here I come !!😂🤡😬😅
448 pieces. Each trimmed and squared up. It took me many hours!!!
Quilting was kind of slow this summer while we enjoyed the warm weather and pontoon here in lakes country. With the return of school came the return of quilting and boy am I loving it! My friend, Clare, brought this beauty to me and I’m so grateful. These small, intricate quilts are some of my favorites to do. I get lost making those designs!
Putting the finishing touches on this flippin’ masterpiece. Brought to me and pieced by Claire Tinjum. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to quilt it
