Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States, putting children and adolescents at risk for poor health. Childhood obesity can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
In fact, according to CDC, for children and adolescents aged 2-19 years in 2017-2018:
- Obesity prevalence was 13.4% among 2- to 5-year-olds, 20.3% among 6- to 11-year-olds, and 21.2% among 12- to 19-year-olds. Childhood obesity is also more common among certain populations.
- Obesity prevalence was 25.6% among Hispanic children, 24.2% among non-Hispanic Black children, 16.1% among non-Hispanic White children, and 8.7% among non-Hispanic Asian children.
Undoubtedly, the percentages and statistics have increased over the years and now it is our responsibility to tackle the consequnces of childhood obesity by decreasing the rates.

Have you heard or are currently thinking about taking the COVID-19 vaccine boosters? Yes, that's right. COVID-19 vaccine boosters and additional vaccine doses are now authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for certain people.
CDC has just announced that people 18 and older must receive the vaccine boosters in order to strengthen their immunity against COVID-19, especially with the recently dangerous variants.
Before you make a decision, we encourage you to read these highly informative articles by CDC and Johns Hopkins Medicine:

On 26 November 2021, WHO designated the variant B.1.1.529 a variant of concern, named Omicron, on the advice of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution (TAG-VE). This decision was based on the evidence presented to the TAG-VE that Omicron has several mutations that may have an impact on how it behaves, for example, on how easily it spreads or the severity of illness it causes. This means that we should be cautious and aware of the omicron variant, thus, we encourage you to take care in following mask safety as well as staying cautious during school, work, and even travels.
More information about the Omicron variant can be found here:

Hello! This year has been eventful for all of us...During this time, we got a lot of Red Cross certifications and took online courses to improve our emergency preparedness and first aid skills. As a result of the skills and information we gained during the classes, we created a shareable folder with the information for a variety of emergencies such as asthma, anaphylaxis, bone fractures, severe bleeding, etc. In the folder, you will be able to find a variety of videos and presentations which compile the information we learned during our courses in an easier and comprehensible manner. We hope that these resources prove to be essential in broadening your knowledge of emergency preparedness.
