Here is the story behind the last track on Starry Skies: Enraptured

I first wrote this song in 2013 as I was falling in love with my future husband, and then updated it in 2021 to reflect the journey that we have taken together so far. It is my favourite song on this album.

Her 3 Keys

For me, motherhood is a huge privilege. My husband and I waited almost three years before our first daughter decided to join us on Earth. One day, when she was about six months old, she reached out and touched three keys (D-E-F #) on the piano that we were playing together. In my head, I heard this little ditty forming around the three notes that she played and decided to write this song, which is, in its simplest form, a celebration of motherhood.

The message in this song goes to the heart of the album: you don’t need to be a prisoner inside your own head and a hostage to your past trauma, negative spirals or anxieties. But I do believe it takes a willingness to work for your fairy tale. And that is not always easy. “Imago” is a reference to a form of therapy used by couples to learn, as I understand it, how to help each other heal from the past and grow as a couple.

Lorsqu’une amie m’a mis au défi d’enregistrer et de publier quelques-unes de mes chansons, je me suis sentie à la fois intimidée et fébrile. Depuis longtemps, j’ai une peur profonde de l’Internet et de toutes formes de médias sociaux et ma crainte face au jugement négatif me paralyse par moments. Il m’a fallu des années pour trouver le courage de publier ces quelques chansons dont quelques-unes me trottent dans la tête depuis plusieurs années. Ce projet fut une expérience tellement libératrice et riche en enseignements pour moi. Je suis choyée d’avoir parcouru le chemin que j’ai parcouru jusqu’à maintenant et j’adorerais collaborer avec d’autres artistes à l’avenir.

Pour moi, c’est un véritable privilège de pouvoir partager la musique que j’entends dans ma tête avec les autres.

Je dédie ces chansons à toutes celles et tous ceux qui s’empêchent d’atteindre leur plein potentiel parce qu’elles ou ils entretiennent des croyances limitantes.

Dear fellow humans,

When a friend mentioned to me that I should record and release some of my songs, it was a daunting yet exciting prospect. I have harboured a deep fear of the Internet and all forms of social media for as long as I can remember, in addition to a sometimes paralyzing fear of negative judgment. It took me years to come up with the courage to publish these little ditties, some of which have been many years in the making. This passion project has been such a beautiful and freeing experience, and I learnt so much along the way. I feel blessed to be on this journey, and would love to collaborate with other artists in the future.

It is truly a privilege to share the music that I hear in my head with others.
