We are looking for volunteers to help us 'Join the Fold' for Children's Home Society tomorrow night at Covert Artisan Ales in Downtown Sioux Falls. We will be folding origami swans for the new dining hall at CHS as part of a community art campaign and in between the folds we will just be enjoying an evening out downtown with great people! Join us- all are welcome!

Sioux Valley Optimist Club hits the road tomorrow for a stop in at Kids Entrepreneur Night in Rock Valley, IA. Kids can stop in at our booth, color an Optimist Creed picture to get a free T-shirt while they last!

The Rock Valley, IA community was hit hard with flooding in June and many of these kids have experienced losses in both their homes and schools. We are so excited to join a fun evening dedicated to these kids who are ready for some summer fun and normalcy in the midst of clean up operations.

CALLING ALL YOUTH GOLFERS!!
Deadline is tomorrow to sign up for the district qualifying event for the OI Junior Golf Championships in Miami, FL this July. First place winners of each of the 7 divisions get their registrations covered by the DMM district (thats $670 free!!).

This local event is played at Hartford's own, Central Valley Golf Course and is hosted by the Hartford Area Optimist Club. It would be great to see more Sioux Falls golfers represented at this event as we have kids to travel from across the state to compete at this unique event!

Sioux Valley Optimist Club’s children’s underwear drive ends Friday May 31 is the last day to support the Sioux Valley Optimist Club as they host a children’s underwear drive to meet the need at the Union Gospel Mission.

Another round of TLC Toys donations is in the books! Over 100 handmade wood toys were distributed today to local kids programs at Children's Home Society and SD Family Connection.

These toys are handcrafted by TLC Toys Inc out of Ramsey, MN, a non-profit with a passion to serve less fortunate children by building quality toys. After more than 5 years and HUNDREDS of wood toys donated to local programs, the TLC Wood Toy project from the SVOC is officially wrapped! We are so happy to find such wonderful homes for these toys!

WE DID A THING YESTERDAY!!! Thank you to all who came out to help us celebrate our ribbon cutting as we joined the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce!

We recently took a tour at the Union Gospel Mission here in Sioux Falls, SD. It was a pleasure to learn all about the amazing services they offer those in need. Everything from offering a safe haven for women and children, meal service, community art time, cooking classes, community health workers, and even a thrift store. We are completely blown away!

If you're looking to help support the UGM, they are always accepting donations that include essential items such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, and much more! They are also looking for clothing donations, and even the clothes you want to throw away. The UGM has an incredible process of recycling clothing that turns into money they can put back into UGM to help those in need! Last month the Sioux Valley Optimist Club purchased and donated 100 'A New Norm' books to students at Patrick Henry Middle School and Frontier Elementary School right here in Sioux Falls. These books are a collaboration between Avera Health and Children’s Home Society. They feature an inspirational story intended to touch the lives of children, adolescents and even adults who struggle with difficulties in life and want to find a path to wellness.

Join us for our regular noon meeting April 18th at the 41st St Pizza Ranch in Sioux Falls to hear from author Tom Roberts about this book, the associated program, and (if we are lucky) a reading of the book by the author!

March Madness is just around the corner which means it's almost time for the SWAMI Bracket Challenge Fundraiser to benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire. Every year the SVOC and friends of the club organize a bracket challenge with winner payouts and 50% of proceeds going to the B&G Club!

This year we are fortunate to have a group of Augustana students take over the marketing for this project and promote the challenge. Here's the deal: the more participants, the bigger the donation and the bigger the payouts!

Brackets are $10 ea. If you already have a CBS Sports account, you are halfway there! Consider this bracket game when making your picks in March and you will be supporting a great organization that touches the lives of hundreds of youth in Sioux Falls and surrounding communities.
