This is too cool not to share here! @leblanc.texture sent a fly-through of the supply depot in our series, Reish, and I love it! 🤩 We both create the story and characters, then I write the final scripts and draw rough boards and occasional concept art, and he builds the final sets, sound design, some voice acting, and has been working on 3D animation methods. After I finish boarding this episode, I want to maybe learn to help with final animation, too. Brent using a combination of facial mocap, Unreal Engine 5, and Maya to test Reish’s expressions for Episode Two! He was showing me last night how he records his own performance with mocap, and then selects key frames and slides around data points on the metahuman rig for animation solving later. It’s really cool. We didn’t have any of that for the first episode, so this second one is going to make leaps ahead of it, visually. This probably doesn't look like much, but I'm learning Storyboard Pro and just figured out how to "animate" separate layers on the same panel, which means I can make smooth pans with depth! I've been wanting to do that for a long time. I also used the auto-matte feature to automatically fill each character with a color ON A SEPARATE LAYER, and I love it. Storyboard Pro was built for speed, efficiency, and mistakes. I'm also just now realizing that I included a second panel in the export, and he has the bottle in his wrong hand. My continuity is broken, haha, but this was just a test. Procreate was like, Hey, do you wanna download some 3D models to draw on? And I was like um YES PLS. So this is a test, and it was ridiculously fast and easy. This mini animatic is me learning some Storyboard Pro basics by watching YouTube videos by @zebirdbrain, who makes this so fast and easy to learn! Thank you, Ze! This animatic doesn’t make a lot of sense, haha, but in it, I learned smart panels, which, after redrawing or duplicating and replacing every single little change to a background in Procreate on previous projects, is heaven sent. 🙏 I also learned camera zooms, pans, and quick opacity animation. So far, I LOVE how easy SBP is making boards and animatics. My favorite things are the smart panels, auto-matte, and easy camera work. Those features alone are going to make boarding so much faster and easier. I wish the pen pressure sensitivity translated from my Apple Pencil better, and maybe there is a way, but still, this is great. I can’t wait to learn more and then MAKE SOMETHING! #storyboardpro #animatic #storyboard
