Spook The Beast: Guided By The Second Sun (2023) - mini-review

Canadian band Spook The Beast are out with the EP "Guided By The Second Sun", and metal is the style explored on this production. It is a striking take on the form we get here, with the two main tracks combining and alternating between more elegant and floating landscapes with a bit of a cosmic touch and even an occasional post-rock reference or two on one hand and a primal, monumental and powerful variety of extreme metal flavored doom metal on the other, sporting hoarse lead vocals that may have a basis in either hardcore or extreme metal traditions. Curiously enough the EP concludes on a more atmospheric laden note, with a dark cosmic journey transporting us for the final five minutes and a bit on this doom-laden escapade into monumental cosmic dystopia. A production to seek out by those fond of doom metal explored in a bit of a different, disruptive yet also atmospheric laden and dark manner.

Comin' up hot: Spook The Beast is a local KWC five-person-post metal/doom/sludge monstrosity that features one of our creators of the Long Weekend Band Crawl (who is one of the most beloved bartenders in KWC that has likely passed you a PBR or five) and one of the most hardworking musicians who launched DAD BOD Production House to help out a number of artists/musicians!

After waitin' patiently for their new lineup to fall in place, Spook The Beast are back to bring their unique style and show you "Where All Things Die" as they launch version 2.0 for you to check out at Revive Game Bar for their first time at the Long Weekend Band Crawl.

Oh, and while not an entirely legal disclaimer but one you should listen to - I've heard you should bring an extra pair of pants in case you s**t yourself while baring witness to their greatness on May 21st.

We've got coming to Uptown Waterloo for Sunday, May 21st, 2023: Alert the Audience, Arcade Allstars, Artificial Dissemination, Dead Karma, Dream-Like State, Lost In The Woods, Second Wife, Space Pope, Spook The Beast, Stevedave, Suplex & VASTE.

We're taking over FOUR (4) VENUES this time around with Dive Bar, Pin Up Arcade Bar, Prohibition & Revive Game Bar, so rotate between our first three (3) venues (aka Dive Bar, Prohibition & Revive Game Bar) before heading to our final venue (aka Pin Up Arcade Bar).

Doors at 7:00pm, 7:15pm, 7:30pm & 9:30pm. 19+ for all shows.
$10 for one venue / $20 advance for all four (4) venues
$25 for all four (4) venues on the show date

Hi all! As you may know, the members of Spook the Beast also have other projects, some of which preceded the existence of this band. Due to their priorities with their other projects, we are saddened to announce that Mrdudul Kamble and Greg Carvalho are parting ways with Spook the Beast. They will be focusing on their other bands: MORS VERUM, of which they both are in; Kamble with ISCHEMIC; and Greg with Æpoch. We love these two knuckleheads and wish them the very best. We look forward to playing shows alongside them in their respective bands in the near future.

Thus, Spook the Beast is in search of an experienced guitarist and drummer to continue our vision. You know what we’re about: doom, sludge, post metal ffo Neurosis, Mare, Cult of Luna, Amenra, Sumac, Ulcerate.
