Congratulations to the 2023 Alaska Bird Conference student award winners!

Toshio Matsuoka received the Best Student Oral Presentation Award for his talk titled "Migratory connectivity between Arctic and subarctic breeding populations of Black Brant in Alaska."

Jeff Wagner received the Best Student Poster Award for his poster titled "Evaluating mechanisms of decline in a boreal-breeding aerial insectivore using integrated population models."

Please Save the Date for the Alaska Bird Conference that will be held December 11-14, 2023, at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, Alaska.

This year’s theme is “Bring Birds Back”; a response to the devastating news that nearly one-third of the 10 billion birds estimated to exist in North America have been lost in the last 50 years, including many birds that breed, migrate within, and winter in Alaska. Join us for our opening night reception in the Hotel Captain Cook’s top floor on 11 December. The next three days will feature keynote speakers, oral presentations, and posters. Wednesday night will be a special event night at the Anchorage Museum where we will have a celebration of “Arts and Conservation”. We will also have an evening banquet on Thursday where we will enjoy fine food provided by The Hotel Captain Cook and then present awards to honor conference best performers, the Pete Isleib award, the Tom Fondell award, and past ornithologists who were the forerunners of biological studies in Alaska.
