This weekend, I launched my first door knock of the campaign season!

Massive thanks to the incredible volunteers who joined me, including some of my super vols from 2020 and Boise City Councilmember Jimmy Hallyburton for Boise.

We have a tough race ahead and I'm grateful to have help from some of the best folks around.

Today is the very last day to submit public comment on the ACHD Integrated Five-Year Work Plan. It only takes a few minutes to make your voice heard!

Four years ago, I campaigned on a promise to prioritize safety and connectivity for all road users and I'm humbled by the good work we've accomplished so far. It was heartening to stop by and see neighborhoods bustling for National Night Out and talk about the progress folks are seeing on their streets.

I'm proud to have played a part in ACHD receiving a $6 million grant to plan 25 projects in neighborhoods with lower incomes. I will continue to advocate for safety and connectivity across and beyond my district.

Everyone deserves safe streets and I'm as dedicated as ever to keep Ada County moving.

Kids are heading back to school. 🚌

Here’s a quick refresher on the rules of the road when encountering a school bus.

Soon, the familiar sights and sounds of school buses will be part of morning routines again. Let’s go over a quick refresher – when it’s required to stop for a school bus.

🛑On any road with three or fewer lanes, vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.

🛑On a road with four or more lanes, vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop. ⚠️Those traveling in the opposite direction can proceed with extreme caution.

Keep our students safe and be an engaged driver. 🚌

When I think about the future of Ada County I think about this phrase, "we borrow the world from our children."

Transportation infrastructure and improvements can feel disruptive and frustrating, but when we build with our communities, they can stand the test of time.

When we build for all users, especially our youngest, it elevates the safety of our system for everyone. Kiddos and their families deserve to have a transportation system in Ada County that works for them, that is safe, and connected to places they play, work, and learn.

10/08/2024

Proud to stand united with my fellow transportation, city, and law enforcement leaders to remind folks to stop on red.🚦

Last December, after one of the deadliest years for road users in Ada County's history, the Traffic Fatality Review Taskforce, which is a collaboration between ACHD, the Boise Police Department, and the City of Boise, was formed.

As a group, we review our most severe and fatal crashes and evaluate how we could prevent or reduce the severity of the crash through enforcement, road design, and other considerations. We'll be finalizing our formal recommendations in December for ACHD and the City of Boise to consider.

There's still so much we can do to increase safety and accessibility, but I'm proud that we've already been able to make some meaningful changes, like enhanced lighting on Cloverdale and traffic calming on 16th.

Let's keep moving, safely and with all users in mind.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out to my campaign launch this weekend!

In 2020, we beat the odds, paving the way for a better, safer, more accessible transportation system in Ada County. It was humbling and energizing to kick off my ACHD Commissioner reelection campaign with so many folks who put their faith in this scrappy, first-time candidate just four short years ago.

I'm ready to keep moving and I know I can't do this alone. Thank you for your support as we embark on the road to November 5.

Trees are a treasured resource across Ada County. It's critical that we do what we can to plant, retain when possible, and salvage when tree removal is necessary. I got to learn a bit more about the salvaging process during a recent tour for a project on Liberty Street.

I'm so excited to have spearheaded a pilot between ACHD, the City of Boise, and the Treasure Valley Canopy Network to salvage eleven trees along the Liberty Street project. Instead of becoming wood chips or ending up in the landfill, these trees will be cut into logs, boards, etc. which are sold at a discounted rate.

Lessons learned from this pilot will help us scale up this effort across the county. Plus it keeps valuable resources out of the landfill!

In anticipation of extreme weather conditions, Idaho Power may implement public safety power shutoffs (PSPS). Please read their post below for more information.

Should the power go out, traffic signals may also go dark. If you come across a signal in "dark mode" or "flash mode" please treat the intersection as a four-way stop. In this situation, the signal essentially becomes a stop sign. The first vehicle to arrive has the right of way. If multiple vehicles arrive at the same time, yield to vehicles on the right, then when it's your turn - proceed with caution.

Remember to stop at the stop bar and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists!

When it's safe to do so, you can report dark traffic signals to the Ada County Dispatch non-emergency line at (208)377-6790. Dispatchers will work with ACHD's on-call staff members to respond to weather-related issues.

Extreme weather conditions forecasted in Eastern Oregon, Western Idaho, and Ada County could require a public safety power shutoff (PSPS) to decrease the risk of wildfires. If necessary, outages are estimated to start sometime between 5 and 10 p.m. today, July 24. We are watching conditions closely and will provide additional information directly to impacted customers if an outage is necessary or conditions improve.

Rapidly changing conditions could affect shutoff timing, and unplanned weather-related outages might occur before a PSPS. If your power does go out, visit idahopower.com/outage for the latest information—or call 1-800-488-6151 with questions. For downed power lines, stay back and call 911. Thank you!

Opportunity to testify today, Wednesday, July 24th!

ACHD Commissioners are considering a once-in-a-lifetime project for State Street between 8th and 14th.

The pavement is degrading and the entire corridor has needed an upgrade for quite some time. With big investments going into this part of downtown Boise, just one block from Boise High School and surrounded by the new YMCA, please consider emailing the Commission or testifying in person. This project has a 2026 construction date.

I’m so excited to share that the ACHD Commission has chosen Ryan Head as our next Director. He’s proven himself as a thoughtful, innovative and collaborative leader and we’re so lucky to have him lead us in the next chapter for transportation in Ada County. Congrats, Ryan!

ACHD is excited to welcome a familiar face as the new Director. Ryan Head, ACHD’s Deputy Director of Development and Technical Services, was selected by the ACHD Board of Commissioners to serve as the Director following a nationwide search and rigorous interview process.

Head will officially begin his new role on Tuesday, May 28, following the retirement of Director Bruce Wong.

Guest commentary: Legislature must reject HB 637 05/03/2024

In a show of solidarity and commitment to our citizens we represent, your ACHD Commission authored an editorial speaking to the grave consequences of HB 637.

Guest commentary: Legislature must reject HB 637 We, your duly elected board of the Ada County Highway District, stand in strong opposition to HB637, as it actively denies the will of the voters and threatens the foundation

Yesterday I was awarded the Leadership by Example, Elected Official Leadership in Motion Award. Thank you to for his gracious nomination and for the recognition and support for all the great things we’re doing at ACHD to move transportation infrastructure forward. I’m so proud of the work we’ve done this year and leading the state in safe transportation for all users.

Seeing this pathway come to life using ACHD right of way with the determination and vision of the Central Rim Neighborhood is something we can all celebrate. It was truly a great moment to take down this old sign so a new pathway could be created. Kudos Central Rim Neighborhood!

As President of the ACHD Commission, it was an honor to sign this proclamation in the spirit of International Women’s Day today. I’m proud that we not only honored the contributions of our female ACHD staff today, but we cultivate a culture that recognizes the skill sets they bring to the District and service to our community.

As a working mom myself, I know how important it is when an employer supports women and helps them thrive. I’m proud that we’ve continued to improve our benefits like assisting with the cost of childcare, generous flexible time off, and paid family leave. Happy International Women’s day to ACHD’s finest! 👷🏼‍♀️👷🏽‍♀️👷🏾‍♀️

Every year I look forward to volunteering at the Boise Bicycle Project’s bike giveaway and even in the bitter cold, you can’t help but have a warm heart after helping and visiting with these families.

The BBP team and leadership is unmatched in pulling off this amazing event every year. These folks and all the volunteers are what make our community special. It was a joy to share some laughs with Commissioner Kent Goldthorpe and show incoming Commissioner-elect Miranda Gold the ropes. Wishing you all warmth and health going into this cold week before Christmas!

Another year in the books participating in Cranksgiving! I look forward to doing this bike scavenger hunt with friends every year. It allows me the opportunity to help a family in need, learn more about my community, and check out our built environment by bicycle. With nearly 200 participants, 48 families received a Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Kudos to all who helped make today happen!

So happy to chat with voters on a beautiful Sunday! Remember to go for Gold on or before Nov. 8th!

Photos from Alexis Pickering for ACHD's post 17/10/2022

On November 8, thousands of Ada County residents will be able to vote for their Ada County Highway District Commissioner.

For folks in District 3 (Boise, Eagle and Star residents), I urge you all to vote for Miranda Gold for ACHD.

Miranda is an independent thinker with a passion for public service that would bring a much-needed perspective to the ACHD Commission. As a former member of the Eagle City Council, she understands how land use and transportation go hand in hand. She’s personally seen what happens when ACHD doesn’t work with the municipalities we’re meant to serve.

Being a mom of elementary-age kids, she knows we can’t afford to accept the status quo of unsafe streets. When we’ve talked about the future of transportation in Ada County, she listens, asks questions, and follows through.

This race is vital to ensuring our infrastructure serves all modes of travel for folks all over this county. I’ve been so proud of some of the things we’ve been able to get done in the two years I’ve been serving on ACHD’s commission, but we need to do more.

We have an opportunity to seek unprecedented investment opportunities and bring federal dollars home to Ada County. We have an opportunity to ask growth to pay for itself and to design right the first time. We have a chance to boldly meet the demands of this moment, but it takes strong leadership.

Please join me in supporting and electing Miranda Gold this November 8. And, as we learned in 2020, every vote for these non-partisan, down-ballot races truly does count!

Many thanks to the Mayor, Council President Clegg and the City of Boise for hosting this conversation with Amtrak. I learned so much and I look forward to doing my part to see how we can bring passenger rail to Ada County.

BIG NEWS!!!

ACHD has been awarded a $5 million federal RAISE grant to improve bike and pedestrian safety in Garden City and the Boise Bench!

I've been fighting hard to make our county and my district safer. With all the new federal funds going towards infrastructure, I've made it a priority to bring these federal dollars to our neighborhoods to solve some of our oldest challenges. This grant will pay for ACHD and our city partners to plan and design sidewalks and bike lanes in neighborhoods that have been left behind, which happens to be mostly in my district (District 2).

I send massive thanks to the awesome ACHD staff for getting this done and working with me and our city partners on this project.

We are excited to announce the successful application of a $5M grant to fund the design of the District’s “Access to Opportunity” planning project to create access to new opportunities for residents living within three historically disadvantaged communities in Ada County.

“This project is an investment in not only our infrastructure, but our community members. Our team continues to innovate by identifying creative solutions for transportation challenges throughout the Valley,” said Commission President Mary May. “We are thrilled with this award and look forward to the sustainable and equitable impacts Access to Opportunity will have for all Ada County residents. Great things happen when people work together!”
