Dr. Anu Chandran,
Assistant Professor, Department of Tourism Studies, Pondicherry University.

He is known for his impeccable roles & responsibilities in the department and is best known as a builder of platforms for students' education and research, and for the advancement of tourism knowledge production hence rightly honoured as a “pioneer” and a “visionary”. He is the go-to person in the department for any student either to discuss new ideas, to seek advice, or maybe to share funny moments.

Dr. Anu Chandran is an M.Phil in Futures Studies, Post Graduate in English Literature M.A. Litt from Kerala University and Post Graduate in Tourism Administration (MTA from Pondicherry University) and has P.G. Diplomas in Journalism and Public Relations (SCMS, Kochi) and Psychology (DDE, Pondicherry University). He was awarded a Ph.D. in Cultural Tourism Studies from the University of Kerala.

Initially, he worked as a Divisional Tourism Officer of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department for two years and later moved into academics as a lecturer. When he got the opportunity to join back and teach in his alma university there was no looking back for him, as teaching was his passion and true calling, a decision because of which batches after batches of students from the Department of Tourism Studies has a guide and a smiling face with a room always welcoming for guidance or laughter even after years of passing out.
While his penchant for reading, writing, and creativity was rather obvious, his decision to explore and engage with the subject of tourism arose from the sheer allurement of all his passion which translated into a lifelong pursuit. As an extraordinarily well-read person who thought deeply about matters, Sir has offered tourism a number of substantial research contributions with publications in several international and national journals, including International Journal for Qualitative Research in Services, Inderscience Enterprises, UK, and Revista de Cultura and Turismo – Brazil, Journal for Tourism Management Research, SAJOSPS, SAJTH, Journal Press–Vision, SCMS Journal, and ZENITH-EIJMMS.

He has won consecutive Best Teacher Award of the department in Pondicherry University, and also Best Research Work Award and Commendation Certificates.
The last room in the corner right of the teacher’s hallway at the Department of Tourism Studies belongs to the pulse of MBA- Tourism and Travel Management. It is a place of home for scholars, students whose works are taken seriously as seriously the acclaimed academicians and professionals who frequently visited. Many dreams were realised, souls motivated, career plan made, shedding of tears to the laughter of joy in the room always filled with hope and words of dear Anu Sir.

The litmus test of a teacher is how they are with their students, and Dr. Anu Chandran is a person who will be the first to join the stage of dancing students with his special dance moves to his favourite Michael Jackson songs, to being the motivator for students to realise their potential to making all the students feel like being a part of his extended family.

Thank You.
