The Papa's Kitchen
From The Papa and his Kitchen to your house weekly.
OK - - we're back after taking a week break and THE TRIBE is helping out with a great dessert. The kids went nuts with this one. I am amazed at how easy it is for one to spoil his grandchildren.
ENJOY!
Some more cooking with the Grands - - but this time some GRANDS in a can exploded and almost took out a couple of Grands!

You could probably ask anyone in my family what I prefer for breakfast or better yet, a late brunch and they’ll tell you The Papa loves Eggs Benny. I love all types of this dish - - Eggs Florengine, Eggs Royale, Eggs Sardou, Eggs Neptune, Eggs Cochon - and the list is never ending. But I always return to the classic - and this video is it. It’s the perfect Sunday morning breakfast - and in this video I invited my brother Ron and his wife Renae over for an after Sunday service meal. Wish you could have been there. Too many folks won’t try it because they think it’s difficult to make - IT ISN’T. But, If you’re ever in my neck of the woods, and you want a good Benedict, and I’m not available — try Benny’s on The Beach in Lake Worth FL. They have the second best eggs Benedict (mine being the first 😎 )
ENJOY!!!
Our friends from Canada - Bob and Joanne came to dinner the other night and I offered to teach her how to do a Southwestern Corn Chowder (several of you have been asking for it). Everything was going along splendid until I tangled with the blender - - - an explosion insued. Well, in short order we got everything cleaned up and had a great dinner and a fun time together. ENJOY!!!
Since the channel started and judging by some of your questions and comments we thought you might wonder if Nana can cook. Well - - she can and does!! Today we decided to do a switch-up and put The Papa behind the camera and highlight Nana's cooking. Today she does one of our kid's "favorite" meals from when they were growing up in our home. ENJOY!!!

HI EVERYONE - It's the once a month Bonus video - and we wanted to take you on a little tour of our kitchen and pantry area - - and a few other things. I mention in the video a little Freezer Inventory Sheet I put together (it's simple and you can modify it for your own use), and I have included a link for that down below along with a few other links to some of MY FAVORITE kitchen items. Hope you ENJOY this video. - Have a good weekend everyone.
Hi Everyone - - and Happy Wednesday to you. Here is a great simple Lasagna recipe that can be cooked and assembled in less time than it takes for you to read this description (well, almost). It's tasty and wonderful even as a left-over meal. The video is a little longer than usual because I included a BONUS - very southern Cabbage Casserole. This is a must in any good southern cooks' repertoire. My grandmothers all made it - - and although there are variations on it out there - - it is simple and just plain good!!!!
I didn't know this until my good friend Linda (a Louisana gal) told me that the combo of a Good Jambayala and Black-eyed peas actually makes a perfect protein. Who knew?? So here are two great recipes to begin a brand new year with (Traditional New Years). Tradition holds that eating black-eyed peas at the start of the year brings into your home great prosperity. We'll see!!! Even if it doesn't this dish is over-the-top, and when combined with a great Sausage and Shrimp Jambayala - well, your life is now complete. Recipes are down below. Try it - you'll love it
We could think of no better way to start the New Year than with some wonderful, tasty, easy-to-make comfort food. This Tomato Soup has been a staple in our home and even our extend families' homes for many years now. It's so rich and tasty - - and I don't typically like tomato soup. I paired it with your favorite - - Grilled Cheese Sandwich (I even used Wonder Bread) - the way your mother made it!!!
Make some and ENJOY!!!!
OUR MESSAGE TO YOU AT THE END OF THE YEAR! HAVE A WONDERFUL, FULFILLING, AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
I don't know what it's like where you are living - but South Florida in the the dead of summer can be brutally hot and humid. It tends to curb my appetite and certainly makes my desire to cook anything beyond a peanut butter and jelly sandwich a challenge. HOWEVER - I do have a simple and great tasting open-faced sandwich for you today. It's Easy-Peasy and delicious, and I know you're going to love it! I suppose if you don't like Tuna you could substitute a host of things, but if you really get yourself some really really good tuna, you would be surprised how great this is - Even if you have company. So, try it out and let me know what you think. And stay cool.
Hello everyone. These pork chops with an Arugula salad on the side is the perfect remedy for an evening meal, after a blistering hot day in South Florida (or wherever you're at). Quick and healthy also makes cooking a delight. This beautiful tasting Mustard/Plum Vinaigrette packs wonderful flavor that will impress your family or even invited company. Try this recipe out and let me know how enjoyed it.
BY THE WAY - you can substitute any type of fresh greens for the Arugula if that's not your bag, and with Plums now showing up at the fruit/vegetable stands, this addition brings a sweetness to the savory of the mustard. In Italy this is called Mostarda - and they do know who to set a meal in Italy!
ENJOY!@
We thought you'd enjoy getting in on our birthday celebration for NANA. It was her 70th on June 25th and the entire family (except Solo who was out of town) came to participate. What a weekend it was as we honored Judah on his graduation from High School, Nana on her birthday, and even on Sunday Kenya and Lincoln were baptized. We were happily exhausted once it was all over. There is some cooking on this video and you can pick up how we prepared a few things very easily in the video (no recipes available this week, sorry).
We all love NANA that's for sure - and the whole gang made sure she knew it!
Enjoy

Well, I know it’s summer and you don’t normally think of soup or chowders in the summer. But move over Red Lobster (RL)! This Homemade Clam Chowder will give RL and most other restaurants a run for their money.
This is an easy and rather quick take on one of the most iconic and familiar chowders known and enjoyed by so many. Like you, I have had chowder that is tasteless, too soupy or overly thick, pasty and unappealing, where you end up hunting for just one little piece of clam. This is a happy middle of the road blend of great texture, and over-the-top ingredients. Whether used as a meal or the appetizer, you and your guests will be more than satisfied with the results of this flavorful and chunky Clam Chowder. Pair it with some good homemade bread - perhaps sourdough and you will add this recipe to your go-to file, and like me you’ll get a craving for some chowder - even in the middle of summer!
Enjoy, y’all
This shrimp recipe is both EASY and DELICIOUS. This just turned into one my summer go-to combinations. It is over the top with flavor and freshness, and if you’re watching your weight like I am - this is a game changer. I personally never mind dieting or cutting certain food items out of my diet for a while - BUT I have to at least have some good flavor. I hate to say it but this is as good as a slice of New York style pizza (well, almost). I hope you try it and find it as enjoyable as I did. If you don’t like shrimp, trying substituting chicken nuggets or something (if you cut your chicken either thin or in small ½ inch cubes it will cook almost as fast as the shrimp.
Let me know if you make it - and what you changed or added/subtracted to make it your own.
Have a great week!
The Papa
As promised, a Papa’s Kitchen Bonus Vid - here, just in time for your Father’s Day Celebrations or the upcoming 4th of July is an easy to do fresh blueberry pie recipe. You’ll have as much enjoyment making this as eating it. I can 99% guarantee the “Dad” in the home is going to love it as well as everyone else. If you make it for Sunday, it won’t make it to Monday. If you make it on Saturday - hide it!

As the price of everything keeps going up and up in this country, we find ourselves eating out less and less. It's just too expensive. So we made a "Friday date night" at home recently and this video shows you the menu from that. After eating this meal - I decided that it was at least as tasty as anything I would get at a restaurant around here, and it was a whole lot LESS money! All it takes is a little planning ahead. Go ahead - you can do it. Surprise your spouse.
And if you have children in the house - send them to a relative or baby sitters house and just hang out together and have a wonderful relaxing evening. Even if you do end up watching a 'girlie' movie guys, it will still be a wonderful way to end your week and start your weekend. Y'all enjoy!
A brand new week brings my FAVORITE FRUIT PIE(actually my editor Belle says it's classified as a vegetable - go figure). Rhubarb is a northern thing I guess. Lots of my southern friends have never heard of it, much less tasted it. It was a staple this time of year in Michigan growing up. My grandmother - Gussie - had it growing out back of the garage in the alley. She'd go out and chop some stalks off and make this pie (this recipe is hers) but she'd also make a sauce we could pour over ice cream, a cobbler and the list goes on. It's usually available from late May to mid-July. Find some at your local Fruit and Vegetable stand (they don't carry it too often in grocery stores), then follow this simple recipe and totally enjoy!! Serve with a good scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you get a taste of what they're serving in heaven when we all get there :)
So whether it's a fruit or vegetable - who cares. It's good y'all
Well it's Wednesday and that means another video from my kitchen. It's now been one month since we started this adventure - and we want to thank you for all your wonderful support, kind comments, and great suggestions. You make it fun! (say - it also helps if you watch the ads)
Now this great tasting meal (if I do say so) was recorded early in our Vlog journey with you, and looking at it now, our camera work, AND our cooking work needs some more work. It's still a great recipe to try - and honestly it's a very easy meal. Additionally, you will see that I took the same meal up to my folks house one evening, re-did the meal for them, and made a lot more of the Teriyaki sauce for the meal. They ended up drizzling that sauce on their rice and broccoli, and loved every bite. But my Dad loves any meal, and my Mom loves any meal she didn't have to cook, 😂 so I'm not sure you can always rely on their assessments. Still, I know you will enjoy it and it will make you very HAPPY - I promise!

Hi Everyone. Thanks for watching. I’m coming to you from New Orleans Louisianan today and specifically from the kitchen of some of our best friends. Michael and Linda have lived here their whole lives, and Linda is one of the best cooks I’ve ever met. Her down home take on all sorts of Creole and French Quarter cuisine is off the charts, and she doesn’t disappoint today with her Seafood Gumbo. Parts of the Gumbo dish were done prior to our filming (if not, our video would have lasted over an hour after edit), but she explains everything completely AND I’ve included her recipe at the link.
Linda is currently involved in a business that is helping folks – like me – learn to live and eat in a healthy way. It’s a lifestyle change, and she has agreed to be my coach. I got on the program about a week after being with them, and now, as of today (23 days into it) not only do I feel so much better (sleep, blood pressure, etc.) but I am down just over 10 pounds in the weight department. I needed to lose some and this program is working just great for me. Can’t say enough about it! I'm still going to continue making some great stuff - I'm just changing my intake.
I asked her if I could pass on her information in case you’d be interested and she kindly gave me permission to do so. I have included a Health Assessment link that you can take, as well as her personal URL should you want more information. None of your information comes to me but to her. This isn’t for everyone, and you’ve got to really “want” a change and be willing to commit to making it happen. I did, and I did.
In the meantime, enjoy this wonderful Gumbo recipe. It’s really easy to make – try it, and let me know how it turns out for you. And continue watching videos from THE PAPA’S KITCHEN. In a few more videos you ought to see a noticeable change in the papa! 😇
Well, you all seemed to like the first video - so here's number two! It happened to be the same meal that I had my folks over for, and this is the dessert I did for them. It was an Espresso Chocolate Cheesecake and it was really rather easy and tasty.
EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY!
Hope you enjoy the video enough to try it yourself. AND - thanks so much for watching. I loved your comments and your welcoming encouragements to this brave new world.
