Landfill Update:
The Douglas County Landfill has resumed limited operations following a brief fire that impacted service last week.
Pickup trucks and cars with household trash under 500 pounds are now being accepted. In addition, recycling and materials related to construction and demolition (C&D) are also being accepted at this time.
Hours of operation are: Monday through Saturday, 8AM-5 PM.
Please note, the Transfer Station remains closed until further notice and, as a result, large loads and trailers are temporarily prohibited. The Camp Road Convenience Center, an extension of the Transfer Station, located off Post Road and Hwy 166 is also closed at this time due to capacity limits.
Additional updates will be posted as they are available.
We appreciate your patience.
District 4 Commissioner Mark Alcarez was recognized today as one of Georgia’s newest Certified County Commissioners during the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia’s (ACCG) Leadership Conference.
Congratulations on your certification, Commissioner Alcarez and thank you for your service to Douglas County!
I proudly endorse Elena Hudson for Douglasville City Council Ward 2. She and her family's lifelong commitment to our community has been impeccable. Elena has shown her hard work to her family's business and her intuitive and creative instinct to continue to grow the business. She works hard to continue the legacy of Hudsons to give back to our community and first responders. She will be a great asset to the city council.
Come and join us for September Saturdays happeing on Saturday September 23rd and September 30th at the Douglas County Courthouse! We look forward to seeing you there to enjoy, Food, Vendors, Rides, and Prizes!😊

Speaking at the Douglas County 9/11 ceremony this morning was an honor. As I reflected on this weekend, so many thoughts came to mind. Those who never wavered to run straight into the fire to save those in need, all first responders. The volunteers worked relentless hours to help try to find survivors. Cancer has now taken more lives from the toxins from the building than those who died on 9/11. This day honors all the first responders who answered the call and gave all, and to those who died during this horrible terrorist attack and their loved ones. I pray every night for all of our first responders and military. Those who protect us so we can live free. As many spoke about today, there should not be a tragedy for everyone to come together to care for one another or dismiss any political issues. We all live in this great country together as Americans. Mark 12:31 says love thy neighbor as yourself. I hope we all learn about the person before making judgments. There is more that unites us than divides us.

District 4 Commissioner Mark Alcarez was kind enough to sponsor lunch for the DCSO in recognition of Police Week 2023. We enjoyed pulled pork, BBQ chicken, Brunswick stew, coleslaw and sweet tea from Hudson's Hickory House. All of the shifts were able to enjoy the generous donation over the two days that the food was provided. Police Week was created to honor the service and sacrifice of the great men and women who serve our communities to keep the peace and uphold the law.
Good afternoon!
Please be advised, there have been coyote sightings in the Woodie Fite area. Animal control and DNR are responding to the situation. If you encounter a coyote, please do not approach, do not attempt to feed, or pet the animal. Keep all small animals inside.
Stay tuned for further updates.
This event is great for the whole family, especially our young explorers.
