Blue Lion Rescue

Blue Lion rescues giant breeds of dogs- mostly rare breed Mastiffs. They are great dogs for the right person though!

These dogs are not right for the novice dog owner as they are very dominant and, if they are in control, you are in trouble!

Let's work together to find Jax a home!

This is Jax. He's an 11 year old American bulldog/pitbull mix. Suffers from severe kennel and separation anxiety, but otherwise completely healthy aside from a few extra pounds. He is allergic to chicken, so is on a specific lamb and oat diet through Purina Pro Plan. Looking for a fellow couch potato to lounge with, preferably someone that works from home or is retired. He gets along with kids, cats and most dogs (prefers females) and it's just a big lover boy. If interested, email [email protected], or text. 719-231-9722

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you had a lovely day!

Buddy is a 14 yr old Harrier (a type of hound) who needs a new home without little kids as they aggravate him and he can lash out. Kind of like us old folks! LOL He gets along with other dogs and loves to go for walks/hikes. He is trained and knows commands: sit, lay, leave it, jump up, paw, come, cage and heal. He has no health problems. He is neutered and current on vaccinations.
Let's try to save this boy!

This girl needs a home asap.

Hi My name is Brooklyn but you can call me Brookly- all my close friends do! And I’m hoping we’re gonna be good friends too. I’m a nearly 5 year old Cane Corso who is as sweet as the day is long. I’m looking for new digs because MY family just built a house in a place where the next door neighbor has a Chihuahua and they are afraid of me. Why? Most of the reason is that I bark at the fence at them. That’s what dogs do! Well maybe not Chihuahuas….Nevermind the fact that they see I’m great with my family, including the kids. They just don’t like me and have instilled their fear into their kid. So one day Grandpa, who lives with us but has a bit of a memory problem ,leaves the gate to the backdoor open and out I go! The neighbor kid sees me and instantly starts running. What do dogs do when people run? They run after them! DUH! And I did and gave her a little nip. Then my family’s six year old ttold me to go back in the fence and of course, I obeyed. Anyway, The neighbors had a coronary. Oh please…wait til that little Chi bites someone! Anyhow, now you know why I need a new home.
Some good stuff about me…I’m very friendly and sweet. I love people and having them scratch my butt and give me belly rubs.I like playing fetch- although truth be told, I’m not so good at giving the ball back so you can throw it again . I love treats so it’s not too hard to train me- and I’m smart! I know Come, sit, lay down, out of the kitchen (my least favorite) and go to bed. I’m also leash trained and housebroken. I sound pretty good, don’t I???
I was raised with kids but I’ll need to go somewhere with no kids or just older kids. Since I’m kind of an alpha dog, I need to either be the only pet or I could get along with a more submissive male.
If you’re interested in meeting the sweetest Corso, contact Lisa and tell her you want to fill out an adoption application. You may even get to talk to my current mom who is holding on to me while we try to find the perfect home.

Save me!

if you can help, email Lisa. [email protected]

UPDATE: Shelter has agreed to give us a couple of more days to try to save Samson!

Hey ,hey everyone- time is of the essence! I’m gonna get killed tomorrow (YIKES!) unless someone can rescue me! I’m located in CA but can be transported elsewhere if needed. So let me tell you about me …My name is Samson and I am a 4 year old male Great Dane. I am stunning if I do say so myself!
I was surrendered to the shelter because I bonded with the man of the house and not his wife. I became protective of “my guy” and actually growled at the wifey. All I wanted to do was have dad and me go to the “man cave” in the basement and cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie. I asked him to put a sign up saying “NO GIRLS ALLOWED” but he didn’t do it so I had to let her know it was dad’s and my bonding time. So that brings us to me getting dumped at the shelter. I was put in a foster home and the same deal with the wife happened. Back to the shelter again…I’ve been on pack walks with other dogs and had no reaction but this shelter thing is starting to stress me out! I only get out of the shelter a few days a week for a walk and the frustration is building up. Now I’m getting to be dog reactive. So the other day, an inexperienced volunteer was walking me and we came upon a person walking a Golden Retriever. Do you know that dog actually growled at me????
Doesn’t he realize just how big I am? Well, I let him know and bit him. No big injury or anything but really, what’s a guy gotta do to get some respect??? So I’ve heard the powers that be at the shelter are being pressured to give me the “hot pink juice” tomorrow. I think that’s going a tad overboard on the punishment- don’t you?
Lisa was contacted by a rescue out in CA who is trying to save my life. I’m one of the volunteer favorites at the shelter and no one wants me to die- especially ME! I need an experienced Dane person- preferably a single person who wants to cuddle with me on the couch and give me lots of treats. I have to warn you though that when you sit on the couch, I interpret that as an invitation to sit on your lap! That way you could easily massage my neck and ears while I watch Scooby Doo on tv. Doesn’t that sound fun?
Please contact Lisa ASAP. I don’t want to die….

Happy New Year!
Thank goodness 2022 is over! It's been a rough one. I thank everyone for their support whether it be monetarily or with wisdom. It is all appreciated more than you know. Uncertainty has been prevalent this year and we have been unable to take many dogs at a time when so many are being given up. A rescue friend dying last spring did upset the apple cart when we ended up taking 7 of his dogs. That's a lot to take in at one time especially when they want to kill you! LOL Patience, Lisa, patience....And that worked- now they just want to kill strangers- not me! That's progress! And they were in pretty rough shape and each was skinny as a rail. I had to feed them a lot of food to get them in decent condition. Which brings me to this...As most of you know, the price of dog food has gone sky high so I am asking for your help again. Today is the last day of the year that you can give your tax deductible donation so we can keep the dogs fed plentifully. We are lucky to be able to get the food wholesale through a close friend but it still adds up to a lot of money. Please consider donating! Thank you.

Gorgeous Jagger was so patient because he knew the perfect home was on the horizon. Well it came today!!!!!! He has been adopted! He has a brother and sister and neighbor dogs he'd love to meet. He loves everyone! Have a great life my boy! Can't wait to see pics.

This beautiful 5 yr old girl was removed from her home as part of a cruelty case. Look how skinny she is! Needless to say, she is scared to death. Fear aggressive if she doesn't know you. She just needs a home where she will be left alone to learn to trust- no pushing the love. Once she sees she will get fed and be respected, she will probably love unconditionally. The key is to not push her. Located in Conroe, TX at the shelter. Contact them if you think you can help her. https://www.petfinder.com/dog/lulu-56349487/tx/conroe/montgomery-county-animal-shelter-tx1003/

Thanks to rescues who offered help with the situation inTX. They are still looking for someone who could take on 2 Shar pei mixes. Maybe a Bull terrier too....Anyone? Anyone????

UPDATE: This guy was placed yesterday in a home that met all requirements!!!! YAY!

Udate: This dog is still alive. Shelter is talking with people who want him. You must be experienced and have enough insurance. Keep your fingers crossed!

UPDATE: The shelter will only release the dog to his owner. Some people were scared by him so they will euthanize tomorrow.

Hey all Rottie people! There's a handsome Rottie boy in the Pueblo, CO shelter who is going to be killed on 5/1 if a rescue doesn't come forward for him. They will not adopt him out because he is unsocialized even though the lady who found him wants to adopt him- she visits him every day. This teaches people to not bring a found dog to a shelter- this shelter would rather kill this poor dog than give him a chance.

And who wouldn't fall in love with this gorgeous Pyrenees???

Bruno is AMAZING, probably one of my favorite foster dogs ever! It will be very hard to let him go, so it must be an amazing home.... He came to us from TX high kill shelter. Best guess he was dumped by a local farm due to bad rear leg-- he couldn't bear any weight on it. Our rescue took him to ortho clinic, he had a torn ACL. He had TPLO surgery few months ago. He has made a full recovery since and is running on all 4 like nothing happened. He is already neutered and this amazing boy has never marked or had any accidents inside my house. He is still scared to walk on hardwood floors so we had to put few rugs down for him. As most Pyrenees do, he loves running around my farm, barking at the deer and watching over his small doggy friends, keeping all safe from predators. He is very friendly with strangers, but sure will protect his family in case of danger. Bruno does bark, but not constantly, he is just letting everyone know that he is watching over his pack. He does drool and shed, but oh well, minor inconvenience. We take him to a professional groomer every 6-8 weeks and it helps a lot to keep him clean and minimize shedding. Bruno's age is unknown, he isn't a puppy but still very active and strong, I think he is around 4 y.o. He weighs around 130 lbs now but was super skinny when we got him (105 lbs). He walks great on the leash and is very calm, non reactive to other dogs or cars. If interested in adopting Bruno, please submit an application here: https://form.123formbuilder.com/5119381/adoption-application

Hey guys, check out this dog who needs a new home! She's not here but she is with another rescue in CO. She's pretty cool, isn't she? This is what they wrote for her bio and a link to fill out an adoption app. Let's find her a home!
Meet Allie the walrus -- that's what the puppy mill called this cross between a bassett and a sharpei... Her body is shaped like a bassett but color, ears and wrinkles are from the sharpei side. She looks intimidating but she isn't mean at all. She loves being petted and follows her foster mom everywhere. Allie is potty trained, uses a doggy door, and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She is a good guard dog and will alert you if any strangers appear on your property. Allie is 2-3 y.o., around 38 lbs., spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped. She is good with most dogs and loves to play. Very treat motivated. She is scared of kids so a quiet mature household and secure fenced in yard will be best for her. She is shy at first but once she gets to know you she will love you forever. If you want to give Allie a chance, please submit an application at this link https://form.123formbuilder.com/5119381/adoption-application

This guy needs a special home! Contact Big Bones if you are interested in giving this handsome boy a home!

This young guy is named Jagger and he's just turned a year old and needs a new home- a forever home! He's been through a lot with his previous owner but we won't get into that. He needs someone who actually has the time for him and is willing to exercise him . He gets along with other dogs but don't know about cats. He loves people too! He seems to be house and crate trained but could use some work on leash training. He's a big love bug!!!!! You can get the application at www.bluelionrescue.org

Prayers for all the people and animals affected by the Boulder Canyon fires. Over 500 homes lost so far. If any people or rescues there need help with a place for your animals to go temporarily, please don't hesitate to contact us. Let's hope the snow starts quickly up there.

Merry Christmas!

UPDATE: The shelter responded to my email and said he had been tagged by 3 rescues so he is no longer in need. Thanks everyone!

Can a rescue help this poor dog? He was a stray in Kansas and is now on the euth list at KS Humane in Wichita. They say that they saw a confused and uncertain boy. He is a working breed and not used to being confined in a kennel or spending much time inside at all. They want to euthanize him because he is nervous, hesitant to walk through doorways, needed coaxing in the hallway and did not allow assessors to weigh him (not sure how he prevented that). I'm pretty sure when a person is sent to prison, they probably exhibit similar behavior for a while...Just sayin'....

Here are specifics: Animal # 141774
Kennel HM06
Intake day 12/1
Last day 12/8 ( Luckily they have given him a little more time)
Rescues, contact KS Humane Society rescue coordinator at: [email protected]

Yippee!!! Sherman got his forever home! His new mama had just lost her beloved Rottweiler to cancer and knew she couldn't go too long without a dog so she found our beautiful boy! They fell in love as soon as they met. :) He's a very lucky boy!

02/12/2021

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to one of our longest residents here at Blue Lion. Khal came from CA and was around 13 years old. He had been a "bite" dog before he came. He wasn't terribly social with either people or dogs but he lived his own happy life here on the ranch. We'll miss you big boy! RIP

Sandy went to her new home today!

Woo-Hoo!!!! Rogan got adopted today! He has a boy of his very own!
