More progress shots of the mandola builds. Fitting the neck block to the mold and starting to flatten and thickness the sides , some cool grain hidden in here. Picture if the 2 shop made single action truss rods to counter the pull of strings and the walnut back blanks.
Starting to assemble all the pieces to start the next project, a pair of mandolas. Slightly bigger than a mandolin and tuned lower. The top is solid spruce, and the backs will be black walnut. A bunch more pieces to make but it's coming along.
Continuing with the tube experiments we have a hybrid bass amp. Starts with a tube preamp consisting of a pair of 6at6 tubes running . this outputs into a small class d power amplifier pushing around 50 watts @ 8ohms. Minimalistic controls with just a gain , volume and treble cut tone control, but it offers a variety of tones from clean to so pretty gritty distortion.
A little low power hybrid amp prototype im working on. The preamp section uses a ”starved plate” 12at7/ecc81 tube design , under powering the tube, allowing it to breakup into the classic tube distortion notorious from vintage amps. features minimal controls that still allow a decent amount of tone shaping options. Next step is to add the power amplifier section, shooting for around 20-40 watts total output.
