Hey gang. Thanks.to all the Punks and Groovers who came to Gag Sabbath XXIV Last night. It was one of those incredibly special comedy nights where the vibe is electric and every act completely destroyed! Our feature act Nellie Ryan was an absolute powerhouse. Can't wait to do it again!

Meet the ACTS: Sally Rose McShane,

Co-owner of Laughs at Lark and PopCom comedy rooms, burst onto the comedy scene after she was kicked out of her rhythmic gymnastics beatboxing troupe because of her lack of rhythm, singing ability and the fact she would just announce inane facts about penguins into the microphone instead of beatboxing. �During this time she's been in the final of Tasmania Raw Comedy a couple of times and more recently a Judge at the raw finals. She’s brought Bogan Bingo to Tassie and is Assistant Director for Fringe at the Edge of the World.
Aside from all that Sally Rose has supported comedy greats such as Fiona O'Loughlin, Tony Martin, Chris Franklin, Rod Quantock, Bob Franklin, Judith Lucy and Chopper just to name a few.�Sally Rose is a self trained ninja and even though she has little to no medical experience, offers free tongue piercings after all her gigs.

Meet The Acts: Emerson Shuey
Emerson's drug of choice is the trumpet (not 'trouser-trumpet', the one made of brass, not 'man-meat'. Genuine pen*ses presumably don't resonate as much, though this is unverified). He can often be found using/practising in public laundromats as the acoustics are better than his house. He should bring washing sometime to actually contribute to the business/es he is effectively freeloading off/from.

MEET THE ACTS: Jared Duggan
Jared Duggan has been living in Perth, WA, nearly as long as he lived in Hobart as a child.

Jared left home when he was 18, because home was Cygnet and nobody should live there. He's now divorced and stranded in Perth. Things aren't going to plan.

A WA State Grand Finalist at RAW Comedy 2023. Jared's dorky, witty style is always endearing to his audiences.

Jared also works at the Leederville Comedy Club and has performed with the likes of Chris Franklin, Stephen K. Amos, and Mark Normand

MEET YOUR FEATURE ACT: ROB BRASLIN

Rob Braslin is a wakka wakka man, he is a writer, comedian and actor from the nipaluna suburb of Clarendon Vale.

He started doing stand-up comedy nearly a decade ago and it's led to all sorts of exciting opportunities in the wonderful world of storytelling; whether it's acting on screen and stage or writing and directing a horror film in his hometown. MEET YOUR FEATURE ACT: SAMWISE HEMMINGS

Samwise Hemmings is a comedian, musician and MC from Wollongong, NSW.

Blending musical comedy with his own personal absurdism, Samwise has amassed a niche following of concerned citizens in the Illawarra and Sydney areas.
His jokes have been described as surreal, articulate and troubling, by crowds and medical professionals alike.

Samwise was a finalist in the 2018/2019 Raw Comedy Australia competitions, as well as the 2019 All Star Comedy competition. He has performed as a part of the Sydney Fringe Festival, and if it ever comes up, he can run surprisingly fast.

Jane discovered standup in 2017 and hasn't been the same since.

She represented Tasmania in the 2018 Raw Comedy National Finals, had her own one woman show for a while in pre-covid times, and can't quite seem to give comedy up. Believe me, she's tried.

Meet The Acts: Jack O'Sullivan

Jack O’Sullivan is a Hobart-based schoolteacher, and as such is well versed in the art of delivering material to hostile and indifferent crowds. He plunged into the Tasmanian comedy scene in 2016, and was a Raw state finalist in 2017, before abruptly moving to London for three years. As one of roughly one million comedians on the London open mic circuit, Jack enjoyed almost zero success, but did enjoy himself nonetheless. He returned to Tasmania triumphant in 2020, and has vowed to never stray again.

Meet Your FEATURE ACT: Amanda Bergmann

Amanda didn’t really want to become a comedian, she just needed an excuse to get away from the kids for a bit, and mixed netball isn’t really her bag. Holding down the fort with two kids, two dogs, four chickens, two rats and countless visiting headlice, her life is far from simple. Lamenting the fact she used to be “cool”, she woke up one day in the suburbs amongst the mayhem of family and realized cool is how you carve it.
Navigating motherhood and working life is a trip – not quite like a holiday, more like bad acid. Stumbling her way through, she’s found the only way to cope is by making light of it and having a laugh. With tales of p**s poor parenting and a lamentable love life she hopes you’ll laugh along. And if it does bring you to tears, that’s ok – she’s always got a spare Kleenex tucked in her bra.

MEET YOUR MC/HOST: Rob Braslin
Rob Braslin is a proud murri who loves to perform stand up comedy, act and write.
Rob started doing stand up comedy in 2013 and has been a regular on the small but strong scene in nipaluna ever since and has opened for Australia's biggest comedy acts including, Hannah Gadbsy, Luke McGregor, Matt Okine, Fiona O'Loughlin and StephTisdell.

For his performance at Deadly Funny, the Aboriginal comedy competition during the 2016 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Rob was awarded a runner up spot.

Rob isn't only passionate about performing but also seeing his local comedy scene grow. He has been producing sell out shows around lutruwita for over 8 years. His regular rooms are CULT Comedy, a new material night at The Brisbane Hotel and Cheeky Comedy at Grinners Dive Bar in 2020 he organised comedy shows for the Taste of Tasmania and plans to run bigger and better gigs while getting on stage himself.


Rob’s work in stand up has also lead to acting in some local ads including Cripps Bread, Tas Networks, and Real Mates Drink Driving campaign as well as a small role in ABC TV’s Rosehaven. His first appearance on a theatre stage came in 2016 as Salarino in Loud Mouth Theatre Company’s production of The Merchant of Venice directed by Maeve MacGregor.

In the 2017 48 horror challenge he received an honourable mention for the short horror Film B-Side he wrote, directed and starred in. Rob was chosen to be a part of the Shock Treatment Initiative by Screen Australia and ABC to write and direct his first fully funded short horror film Vale Light has screened at The Sydney Film Festival and is coming out in Oct 2019 on ABC iView.

MEET THE ACTS: James Hanson
James Hanson is a stand-up comedian from Bris Vegas, who’s performed in many venues around Brisbane & the Gold Coast. James has performed stand-up comedy for radio (including on a moving train to a crowd of passengers), at Falls Festival Byron Bay, in Sydney, Los Angeles and London. He ran his own stand up comedy room every week where he either emcee’d for the evening or performed his finest 5-10 minutes. As well as regularly performing stand-up comedy gigs around Brisbane, he’s also been used to expanding people’s minds by hosting regular trivia nights.
A night with James hosting will hopefully not suck but instead be informative, fun and witty.
Let’s hope his comedy set achieves the same!
