“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body” (Ephesians 5:22-23).

Yesterday we took a look at how God designed and directed wives to be under authority. There is great power found when a woman is in proper alignment in her marriage. How a wife applies this specific command to submit in Ephesians 5 will bear great impact on her home, for good or for ill. As wisdom is portrayed in the Proverbs, a wife that nurtures a yieldedness to Christ in her role as helpmeet to her husband will build her house well—she will, as it were, with her own hands raise up the walls and those who dwell therein to be strong and beautiful! Her obedience to Christ in this manner is key to the fruitfulness of her labor—and the stability of her household! She will “speak of excellent things; and the opening of [her] lips shall be right things. For [her] mouth shall speak truth…” (Proverbs 8-9).

When a wife submits unto her own husband “as unto the Lord”—when she is a faithful student of the word of God and a crown unto her husband—her counsel will be that of “sound wisdom, understanding, and strength.”

God did not command a husband to subdue his wife, but for a wife to willingly submit to his God-ordained leadership. These are two very different things. A virtuous woman is known for her strength, her beauty, her tenacity, and her ability—and the “heart of her husband doth safely trust in her” (Proverbs 31:11). There will be oneness and joy in their union.

This coming Sunday we will consider the onslaught against the home as the adversary seeks to strip away this kind of incredible strength from marriage. The Holy Spirit will always point us to hold fast to what God says, over what the world is screaming! “The bands of the wicked have robbed me” the Psalmist cries out in Psalm 119: 61, “but I have not forgotten Thy law.” Brothers and Sisters, keep your eyes and ears turned away from consuming the cultural norms being forced before you at every turn—be intentional to ignore what society is saying in regard to the validity of God’s specific commands!

Turn your attention fully on the Savior—for He is the head of the body and we must take all of our directives from Him alone!

This week remember to speak the TRUTH to yourself—in your heart and your home, to speak the TRUTH to the saints—encouraging and edifying brothers and sisters in the faith, to speak the TRUTH to sinners—in sharing the Gospel through our lips and literature, and to speak the TRUTH to our society—in being salt and light, proclaiming publicly to neighbors and leaders what God says concerning justice and truth.

In a world that loves lies, we as a local church—with Christ as our Savior and King—must resolve by God’s grace to be “children that will not lie” (Isaiah 68:3).

Speak the truth in love, but always speak the truth.

Ask Jesus Christ to help you to be “valiant for the truth upon the earth” (Jeremiah 9:3). For He has "given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth" (Psalm 60:4).

In 1973, the US Supreme Court took a supposed "right to privacy" to mean that murder of your own children can happen in the privacy of the womb.

In 2019, the Kansas Supreme Court took the right to the "pursuit of happiness" and said it included the pursuit of homicide.

Thus, Bleeding Kansas, with its iniquitous court opinion, has fabricated its own state “Roe”, called “Hodes and Nauser v. Schmidt”.

Both courts were dead wrong, both fallacious, both vain and iniquitous. The US Supreme Court just demonstrated that by admitting the ruling 50 years ago was unconstitutional, and have returned the question to the states.

But babies didn’t die because of Roe v. Wade. Many tens of millions of babies were murdered because states bowed to Roe v. Wade.

The US Supreme Court was right to say that abortion is not a right in the Constitution.

The US Supreme Court was wrong to allow the states to deprive humans of the right to life if they choose.

The Hodes case is also unconstitutional, and we ought to ignore it, as we should have ignored Roe. What was national now should strike closer to home for the God-fearing people of Kansas. We must defy Hodes. We must follow the Constitution and the Higher Law of God, even if the courts will not.

As Elders our prayer since Friday has been, “Lord, may Your people, who refused to ignore Roe, do justly now that they can no longer use it as an excuse.” Our God commands that, “That which is altogether just shalt thou follow”. We must call for justice and plead for truth.

We must reject compromise, and demand of our legislators that, “Abortion must be abolished.”

“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,” (Ephesians 4:1).

Whether Ed in Hebrew or Martys in Greek, God’s people have been ordained to testify of the truth as witnesses. As Paul was in prison for His witness of the Gospel and eventually slain, history bears “witness” that Christians have often sealed the testimony of their lips not only by their walk, but in their willingness to face martyrdom for their Lord. Thus, the word Martyr means both witness, and someone who dies for their faith.

It so happens that Saturday, April 23rd, was the anniversary of the death of a famous Christian in history who was martyred for his faith! His name was George—a Roman soldier who professed and preached Christ. He was said to have been valiant and strong in faith. One famous account that is attributed to his life is that of how he slew a dragon that was terrorizing a pagan village. The account reports that after he saved the village of their physical threat he preached Christ and their need for spiritual salvation! Many are reported to have believed and were baptized! Eventually, Diocletian, the wicked Roman emperor persecuting any who would follow Jesus, took George prisoner. When George refused to deny Jesus as His Lord, he was beheaded on April 23rd, A.D. 303.

This faithful saint is just one of millions, a great cloud of witnesses. The Lord has given all of His children the role of witness in their generation. May we walk worthy!

Galatians 6:14 “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”

As Christians, we are to live for the glory of our Redeemer and King! He that glorieth the Scriptures declare, let him glory in the Lord. Internationally live your life and delight your heart in the word and work of our crucified and risen Sovereign Savior!

Not only should we allow that splendor to outshine our appreciation of the things of this world, but also to allow its light to shine and illuminate every other aspect of our daily walk.

The glory of the Gospel of Christ should be viewed somewhat like the sun—not only that we can see it each day, but rather more, that by its radiance we can clearly see everything else.

Last week and this week, our church body has been giving out Gospel tracts to commemorate the sinking of the Titanic. The front is a simulation of the original boarding pass. They are really wonderful! It was 110 years ago, on this fateful day (April 14th) that the ship struck the iceberg—and tomorrow (April 15th), early morning, will mark the day that it sunk! We have found that this famous, historical event has given great opportunities to springboard to the way of salvation, especially this time of year.

Maybe you can use this momentous anniversary to also give out a tract today. Every person aboard that ship did not know they had purchased a ticket to their death, they just wanted to enjoy a cruise of pleasure—what a wonderful way to encourage a fellow shopper or someone at the gas station to read the gospel in a tract you hand them!

To the rescue! People are dying! Point them to Jesus Who is mighty to save!
