The story of Clever Crow has no beginning. As a child, we knew we carried Indigenous blood, but no one knew anything. I was surrounded by Indigenous teachings, but didn't know it; it was just the way I was raised.
I never fit in anywhere. I gathered my experiences and gave whole heartedly. I was always called odd or weird. But no one could deny my generous spirit and my true passion for helping others. Throughout my educational experiences, I seemed to be at odds with the institutional systems and the hierarchy. But along the way I gathered people around me who believed in what I was doing and believed in each other. Along the way I gathered experience and knowledge. I gathered understanding and skills that I could use to help others.
In 2016 while finishing my PhD I had a member of my committee who was quite abusive. In my final defence she called me a crow. She said I gathered my bits of information and called it research. What the rest of the committee saw as illuminating and ground breaking, she saw as something else. Throughout my life when someone has sought to insult me, I have turned their insults into treasures. This is what I did. I turned her insult into a treasure.
As I researched and learned of my Indigenous heritage, I also began to help those that society had hoped to eliminated. I adopted the Crow as one of my totems and have used them for strength to create Clever Crow consulting.
It is my dream to create Clever Crow Collective Clans which will be an Indigenous incubator and co-working space that begins and ends with Indigenous ways and ceremony.
