Thank you @sharonkahumbu for your questions. She asked me How depression has affected my daily life and how to handle panic attacks.

P.S. My anxiety levels are still quite high so you might pick it in some places. Next video should be how anxiety affects my daily life. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

What does anxiety feel like?

I decided to explore what other people say about living with depression. I must say, it was tough reading through the narratives because I could resonate and feel the pain of those sharing their experiences.

Happiness looks good on me! ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž

A genre you guys would never believe I listen to is Kikuyu gospel music ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š. They just have a way of getting into my soul, this song being one of my favourite songs. Please note I don't know how to speak Kikuyu I'm so pathetic at it, I understand quite well as long as it's not deep Kikuyu . Shame!

To translate the chorus:

Bless the work of my hands
And give me a reason to rejoice
God who blesses
You bless whom You wish
God who blesses
Bless me once more

I started creating vision boards about 8 year ago, and I did it every year till 2020. I had all these hopes, then COVID showed up, and I was like, 'Really, life?' But since November 2023, I've been getting this strong feeling like I should make one for 2024, this time with more heart and less focus on just wanting stuff.

I've been journaling for more than 10 years, not every day, though, I only got more serious about 2 years ago. Trust me, journaling is like a good friend you can always lean on. If you're unsure how to start, I'm here to help.

Now, goal setting. Sounds kinda official, huh? Nah, it's just drawing a map for your dreams, breaking them down into little steps you can actually tackle. Let's make those goals more like friendly nudges, not just wishes but plans you'll actually stick with.

Join me on 29th Jan at 7pm via zoom.

Holistic goal setting involves considering various aspects of your life, such as personal, professional, and well-being, to create balanced and meaningful objectives. Identify specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for each area. Regularly assess and adjust your goals to align with your evolving priorities and values. Integrating mental, physical, and emotional well-being into your goals fosters a more comprehensive and fulfilling approach to personal development.

Remember that goals need to have a plan, without a plan, you are destined to fail. Break your goals down into actionable steps and ways to measure your progress. Most importantly, remember that goals are not achieved overnight. It takes discipline, commitment, and the right people around you to accomplish them.

Reflecting on 2023, my heart overflows with gratitude. I experienced guidance, unconditional love, grace, provision, and strength from God which have been the cornerstones of my journey. I was showered with love and support from family and genuine friends, who tirelessly stepped in when I was down in the dumps.
Additionally, I received an outpouring of support from people who barely knew me, blessing me in ways I could not imagine. May favor upon favor be upon you.

This year, I've been the healthiest I've been since my diagnosis in 2015, I have only had one hospital admission and the relapses were not as intense and prolonged as other years. I have been able to afford my treatment and medication without much trouble. I truly give God thanks for this.

To my online family, your constant presence is a blessing. Thank you for joining my mental health education journey. Your support eases doubts, and your encouragement empowers me to share my struggles.

Wishing you a New Year filled with joy, health, and boundless possibilities.

The past three years have ended with me being in extremely low moods or in a depressive relapse that always led to suicidal thoughts. My doc actually once told me suicidal ideations/attempts have a tendency to increase towards end of the year.ย This year, I choose differently, I choose gratitude, excitement, acceptance of things I can't change, and just a whole load of enthusiasm for the new year. I'm not all bushy-tailed, however I understand it's work in process, and I have to keep at it for my overall emotional and mental well being. I've also changed my language from 'Let's see what 2024 has in store for me' to 'Let's see what I have in store for 2024.

Honestly, I can't stand Christmas! I am the living, breathing Grinch! The music, the lights, the good cheer? ๐Ÿ™„ Not my cup of cocoa. Okay, fine, I admit, I secretly love the gifts! ๐Ÿ˜… Still, unmistakably Grinchy. It's a trauma response and a work in progress. In the meantime, my fellow Grinches, here's our survival guide. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Let's sleigh this Grinchmas together!

People with depression desire a profound understanding, emotional stability, and authentic connections as they navigate the labyrinth of their emotions. In this journey, let's collectively break the stigma surrounding mental health. It's about more than just avoiding misconceptions; it's about fostering a space where those with depression are not only heard but genuinely supported and respected. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’™ Let's initiate conversations that matter.

Photos from letsgomental.ke's post 05/12/2023

Depression relapses can be extremely difficult to deal with and accept. Just when you think you are on your way to full recovery, depression hits you, and you go down again. Unfortunately, relapses are quite common; for some people, it could take years, while for others, it might be months, or in severe cases, every several weeks to experience relapses. The intensity and duration of the relapses vary based on different factors, at that point. Relapses can come silently, and you may be unaware until you experience one. Other times, you can feel them coming, and occasionally, it takes someone else to bring it to your attention. Remember, these relapses don't happen because of what you did or did not do. It's not because you are not strong or not trying hard enough; that is just the nature of depression.

A toxic workplace can have profoundly detrimental effects on employees' mental health. In such environments, employees often experience excessive stress, anxiety, and even depression due to factors like harassment, bullying, high workloads, and a lack of support. Recognizing the importance of mental health in the workplace is crucial for both employees and employers. When individuals prioritize their mental well-being, they can maintain productivity, creativity, and overall job satisfaction. Furthermore, fostering a supportive and inclusive work culture not only improves employee morale but also enhances the company's reputation, leading to increased retention and productivity. Taking care of one's mental health is not just a personal responsibility; it's an essential element in building a healthy and productive work environment.

The workplace is a major cause of burnout, stress, mental breakdowns, and mental illness. We spend most of our day at the office, so it's crucial to take steps to manage your mental health. There's an urgent need for corporations to create supportive environments, but until then, make small changes on your own.
