Sometimes you wonder what she is thinking as she looks out in the direction of the sea ice. Is it time to start our long journey? Are my little ones strong enough? Is the weather starting to turn and we need to stay for a while?

This beautiful female brown bear was taking a quick drink of cool water in the warm summer sunshine.
I am definitely going to miss seeing these guys this year. The first time in fifteen years I haven’t been north for the summer season.

A beautiful polar bear family I had the privilege to photograph this year. The number of bears in the area were significantly lower this year and we went many weeks not seeing any at all. This Mama and her two looked super healthy though and hopefully all made it safely out to the sea ice.
These amazing families are one of the reasons I am so excited to be part of the campaign again this year. After witnessing the changes over the years and hearing first hand from guides who have been viewing these animals for many years before coming together to support and protect our oceans is so important.

I am definitely ready to shake off the week and head straight into the weekend. Things have been crazy here after a major water leak made a complete disaster and destroyed half of our home and all of my office/studio including canvases and prints over two months ago. We finally have the reconstruction moving in the right direction 🤞 and hopefully there will be an end in a month or two. I am really looking forward to having an office and work space back not to mention a home. ❤️

I hope you all have a wonderful day. 💕We are lucky to have a chance to run away to visit family this weekend. Running away from our house disaster (declared uninhabitable due to a water leak) and just enjoy time with family in North Carolina.

It is the end of February and Mama Bear sees the pi-sim (sun) shining through the opening of her snow den and knows it is time to go. She and her two little ones are heading out to the sea ice.

This morning as I sit in northern Manitoba waiting to go out in search of polar bear moms and cubs I am struggling with the realization that things have changed so much over the past 15+ years. What can be done to help these incredible animals? To save the Moms and cubs and protect the denning areas which are so important to their continued survival. I am struggling to find a way to make a difference even if it is just a small one. I refuse to give up hope.
