Today is Buffalo Soldiers Day | Watch this reel to learn more.
In 1866, Congress established six all-Black regiments (consolidated to four shortly after) to help rebuild the country after the Civil War and to fight on the Western frontier during the Plains Wars. It was from one of these regiments, the 10th Cavalry, that the nickname Buffalo Soldier was born.

Last week President Joe Biden signed an executive order, developed through The White House’s Joining Forces initiative, that will boost job opportunities for military and veteran spouses whose jobs are sometimes disrupted by their partners’ deployments, at Hercules Gym on Fort Liberty, N.C., June 9, 2023.
The order directs agencies to develop a federal government-wide strategic plan on hiring and job retention for military spouses, bolstering childcare options, improving data collection on military and veteran spouses, caregivers, and survivors in the federal workforce and private sector, and other actions. Biden described his order as “the most comprehensive set of administrative actions in our nation’s history to support the economic security of military families, veterans, spouses, caregivers and survivors.”
