If you use any heat on your hair, please read!!

If your hair is steaming while using flat iron, curling iron, or wand- it’s one of three things. I never knew this until I started Monat and learned what I was actually doing to my hair.

🌀1. Your hair is not 100% dry. You must use a hot tool on completely dry hair or you risk severe damage! I was one that would do this because I would get impatient with the hair dryer and have somewhere to go and figured ehhh the hair straightener could finish it. WRONG!

🌀2. The temp is TOO FREAKING HOT! Y'all, if you have baby fine, bleached hair, there is ZERO reason to have your hot tools at 1,000,000°F!!! Turn it down and stop burning up your hair.

🌀3. Your heat protectant (please tell me you use something) is chocked full of silicones and you’re baking that crap into your hair. Literally melting plastic right on your strands.
Yeah, it may FEEL silky smooth, but in the long term, this is awful for your hair. It coats and creates a barrier where vital hydration and moisture can not pe*****te. So-it feels good, but it’s putting a bandaid on your poor, abused hair.

It’s endlessly important to educate clients on proper hair care and styling. If you’re spending hundreds of dollars on your color, but using 💩 products and torturing your hair with heat, you are wasting your money!!! I was one of those and now I am not!!! So learn from my mistakes and trust me when I say turn the heat down, dry your hair completely before styling and for the love of hair use a heat protectant.

I tried to make these photos as identical as possible, I am not trying to hide anything. I have never been able to grow hair below my shoulders because it breaks off and looks like a witches broom... until I made the switch from Pantene and other store brands. I also bought salon products but they were too expensive to sustain.

I’m a Monat lifer!! My hair is so soft, it is not dry, it doesn’t tangle like it used to, and these products are not harmful and are plant-based. The capixyl in all the shampoos promotes hair growth. Pretty cool.  I use the kids line on my daughters. These products literally last months because they are really concentrated and you only need about a dime size. Over time with Monat, your hair is stronger, softer, and more manageable because it is HEALTHY. Over time with drugstore shampoo, your hair ages, dries out, breaks off, and is hard to manage. Do you know WHY supermarket shampoo is not great for your hair? Let’s break it down. 🤔

Let’s break down some of the common ingredients of some of the most common supermarket shampoos that you’re likely using.

◾️SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE: a cheap cleansing agent also found in harsh detergents, like engine cleaner. In many shampoos SLS is the base ingredient. If it can dissolve engine grease, as you can imagine it dissolves the natural oils of your skin creating dryness and irritation. In the natural shedding process the average person sheds over 100 hairs a day. During shedding the open hair follicles are vulnerable to SLS damage by drying and irritating them. Unfortunately once hair follicles die, they can’t come back.

◾️SILICONES: you probably swear by your Pantene or tresseme because it’s so shiny!.. but it’s the plastic. Silicones are plastics that fill in your hair’s porosity. It locks out water and even air. It gives the hair the appearance of a smooth shiny surface and that slippery-when-wet feel. Over time the silicone builds up on the hair- making it heavy, lifeless, and dull. Remember it locks out moisture, so the hair becomes dried out and becomes a sponge to dirt. You get very shiny hair for a couple of days, but over time not letting in conditioners will just have them sit on the surface and your hair will be one weak and brittle.

◾️SODIUM CHLORIDE: aka... table salt! Great on a baked potato, not so much your hair. This is used as a thickener in shampoos but can cause a dry and itchy scalp by stripping your scalp of its natural moisture.

◾️POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL or PEG: another thickening agent in shampoos that strips hair

◾️MINERAL OIL: engine oil’s cousin! So you probably don’t want that on your hair. Your products claim to have argan or macadamia oil in them but at the bottom of the ingredient list they usually have less than 5 percent and use mineral oil as a cheap filler.

◾️ PARABENS: prolong shelf life of products. They’re known for their toxic nature. Not only do they irritate the scalp but can cause hormonal imbalance which can lead to hair loss.

WHY??!! Mom said when I was little she could never satisfy my "but WHY's" and some things will never change. My favorite style product by Monat was actually one of my free ones that I picked with my first order!

The Flex Hold Gel defines my curls better than anything I have ever used. I use a pea-size amount on wet hands, flip my head upside down after I shower, and I get amazing definition. My curls are soft, never crunchy, and no longer stringy and frizzy. 

In the first two photos I had been using the Renew shampoo and conditioner for about four days but had not switched all of my other products over to Monat yet. The last photo (black and white) is 3 months later. I Love my hair again. When I was first learning about these products I read that it is not your hair that is the problem.
