Jess Blubaugh for KC
I’m a neighborhood leader and nonprofit professional running for City Council in the 4th District At-Large seat.
This campaign is about making sure Kansas City continues to grow in a direction that benefits all of our neighbors.
Well, folks – we gave it our best shot. While I won’t be on the ballot in June, I am BEYOND THANKFUL for the support you have given me throughout my campaign. Since we started this in July 2021, and since my official announcement in April 2022, you all have shown up for me. THANK YOU for your time, your input, and your engagement. Whether it was lending an ear or donating - you all stepped up to support me through it all and there aren’t words to express how unbelievably grateful I am. Cheers to all the other candidates out there who stepped up to run as well – it takes a lot to step into the arena, and win or lose, we all did that.
I ran because I wanted to help support our city and our citizens. Remembering that you can lead from anywhere, I'll keep pushing Kansas City forward from where I am, and hope you continue to do so too.
Mark your calendars for the General Election on June 20th, get out and vote!
Kansas City, it's election day! It's finally time to show up to the polls and vote to make a better Kansas City for all of our neighbors. We deserve strong city services. We deserve safe and healthy communities. We deserve a vibrant city for us all to thrive in.
I will work with you to make this happen. Vote Jess Blubaugh for Councilmember At-Large 4th District!

I am proud to announce that I have received a Qualified Recommendation from the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund!
As a member and longtime advocate for the Kansas City LGBTQ+ community, I see how much representation matters. I’ll work to ensure that whenever decisions are being made, the voices around the table represent those that the decision will impact.
There's only six days until election day! Make sure you're prepared. Busy on April 4th? Vote early at the Election Board in Union Station. For more voter resources, visit www.kceb.org.
Our city council is made up of 13 people. In addition to the Mayor, there are 6 districts which each have 2 members. Each district has one person who is voted on only by those living in the district (the “in district” member) and one person who is voted on by the entire city (the “at large” member.)
I’m running for city council in the 4th District At Large race. That means any resident of Kansas City, MO can vote for me, regardless of their location.
You can read more about how city council works on the city’s website. (https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hall/city-officials/about-city-council)
Thanks to the Northeast Industrial Association for hosting a candidate forum today at ! Love hearing about what’s important to business owners and residents in the various pockets of our city.

Kansas City is an exciting place to be, with consistent growth adding to our vibrancy. Let’s make sure our continued development is sustainable and benefits all of our neighbors, as well as the companies behind them. When incentives are used, they should be thoughtfully designed and carefully managed to ensure that developers are accountable to the promises made. Expanding access to affordable housing should be a primary goal of our city.
I’m lucky to have so many wonderful women in my life that have shaped me into who I am today. Teachers, teammates, mentors, and mentees: each woman has shown me their unique take on the world and a new way to create positive change.
My mom was one of the first women to do so. As a social worker, she taught me the importance of advocacy, and what caring for your community really means. Happy !
Beautiful day for door knocking! Lots of folks home today and ready to talk - you know what came up the most? Sidewalks. We need to continue and expand the city’s efforts on repairing and installing sidewalks all across our city.
Today I had the opportunity to join in on the KC Tenants Power Candidate Forum. I believe that expanding access to affordable housing should be a primary goal of our city.
Let’s make sure that our growth and development continues and is sustainable, AND benefits ALL of our neighbors!

Let’s take an expansive view of safety and well-being by building a community that enables that reality for everyone. Whether that means after school programs for our children, a supported police department that is accountable to all residents, or healthy transportation and recreation choices, the way we build and operate our city is essential to the safety and health of everyone living here.
Big THANK YOU goes out to Operating Engineers Local 101 and Aaron Brown for the endorsement of my run for KC City Council! I’m incredibly grateful for the support!
Why run for City Council? Let's start off right at home.
In 2016, I moved into my Longfellow neighborhood. Shortly after, I got involved in the neighborhood association. I quickly came to see that when you get involved on a local level, you have the opportunity to make change. Not only that, but you can make change fast.
I am running for City Council because I have seen, felt, and created the impact of being involved on a local level. I am confident that through this avenue, I will be able to make timely changes for our community.
Listening at the KC Royals Listening Session tonight. Very interesting presentation with lots of exciting opportunities discussed and great questions asked by the community members here. What do you think about the possibility?
Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! holds a special place for me, as sports have always played an important role in my life. Having found such value in playing and learning from the sport of softball at Johnson County Community College, I was inspired to take on the role of the Director of WIN for KC for four years. I worked to empower girls and women through sports and planned events like the Chiefs Super Bowl parade, the KC Marathon, and the Big 12 Basketball Championships. To this day, I use what I learned on the field in my leadership style. Here's to supporting the next generation of girls who learn to lead through sport!
Get ready! This Kelce Bowl is about to be 🔥! Can’t wait, KC!
Packed house tonight to hear from four former Mayors of KC. So much perspective and experience to learn from on that stage. Two highlights of many takeaways:
“Look up the definition of politician and public servant. They aren’t the same thing. Be public servant. Not a politician.” - Sly James “Listen. Build relationships. Don’t burn bridges.” - Kay Barnes
Do you know about the Westside Community action Network? If not, you should. They are an example of what it looks like to build, activate and advocate in their neighborhood and broader community in partnership with the city, the county and numerous civic and nonprofit orgs. Thanks for the time , Jorge and Barb for your time and insights today. And thanks for serving up some delicious lunch to accompany our convo.
Supporting a local business today that brings a whole lot of joy to the folks in our community, all thru some plant love!

The services your city provides directly impact your life every day. Sometimes they’re so automatic that we don’t even notice them — until they aren’t working as well as they should. And then you may wonder, “what exactly are my tax dollars being used for?” Let’s make sure our city is delivering on its promises to its residents, like providing safe, clean parks and public spaces, keeping sidewalks and roads in good repair, and maintaining reliable core services like trash pickup.
Exactly 13 weeks before the April election, and the City Clerk's office just called. I am officially confirmed to be on the ballot. Pitch in to help us win this thing at jessforkc.com!
What a great way to start the first workday of 2023 - seeing a story about KC in my daily Good News Network email! This is a great example of programs that help Kansas Citians, address a variety of issues and leveraging the many nonprofits doing impactful work in our community. It doesn't solve the challenges of housing and jobs entirely, but it's a step in the right direction. As a City Councilor, I will work to continue, create and elevate programs like these.
Kansas City Gives Jobs to its Most Vulnerable Residents—And Housing Soon Followed Without enough litter cleanup, Kansas City put some of the homeless population to work and they found housing soon after.
