Things you will only ever see at The Late Night Sweet Shop #47: exciting new character act Eric Slowton!
Birmingham's top Alternative Comedy night returns for another Pick n Mix of mystery guests bringing you their most imaginative sets. At the last show we were joined by the one and only Mr Bobby Goldfinn himself. Who knows what's in store this time? Only one way to find out:
Head to CherryReds cafe on John Bright Street, Birmingham City Centre, Thur 26th October, 8pm, Pay What You Want.
Some photos from the fantastic Hollywood Comedy Club show at this year's Birmingham Comedy Festival. A real gig to remember, with a bill full of good mates, a big warm friendly audience, and a legendary headliner in the shape of Norman Lovett. It's good fun this comedy lark.
The Late Night Sweet Shop Birmingham Comedy Festival special was everything I wanted it to be and more. A vibrant explosion of imaginative escapist fun. Thanks to all the acts, and to every audience member who randomly took a punt on the show – but especially thanks to those who keep coming back, you guys are the best! And if you haven’t been along to one yet, what on Earth are you waiting for? The next one is Thursday 26th October. Is any of this real? Was there really a goldfish doing stand-up? Did the rucksack bomb detonate? Did the firemen extinguish it? Wake up Susie, you’re still fast asleep, wake up...
TONIGHT! A Birmingham Comedy Festival special: get yourselves down to CherryReds cafe at 8pm and escape into the land of The Late Night Sweet Shop!
Tonight was one of the best shows Hollywood Comedy Club has ever put on. It was a pleasure to be a part of it. Mat and Sean have built something really great with these gigs, and long may it continue. Plus, to gig with a bona fide comedy legend who I’ve been watching since I was a kid, in the shape of Norman Lovett, was the icing on the cake. Keep supporting live comedy everyone, there’s great stuff happening on your doorstep - and check out Birmingham Comedy Festival while it still has a few days to go!
If you've somehow missed this, it's happening TONIGHT! A small handful of tickets are still available, so get on down to the Irish Centre in Kings Heath at 8pm if you're available...

Dave Dinsdale's had me back on his show to spread more slanderous gossip about everyone on the Midlands comedy circuit.
The Dave Dinsdale Hour (24th September) - The Dave Dinsdale Hour - Black Country Xtra So called because the host is Dave Dinsdale and it is on for an hour
That nice Mr Dinsdale invited me into the studio to talk about what I'm doing for Birmingham Comedy Festival and what it's like gigging on the Midlands comedy scene.
(I arrive around the 13min mark.)

Comedy! Magic! A Secret Room! The Devilishly funny magic show returns to the Birmingham Comedy Festival on Tuesday the 10th of October at 7:30pm at The Lost & Found Birmingham.
Richard Dadd portrays The Devil as he rises from the fiery depths to tempt hapless magician Damon Conlan into selling his soul!
It's a pay-what-you-want show so I suggest reserving a seat from linktr.ee/ConlanBeatstheDevil to guarantee avoiding Satan's wrath.
"One of the best acts Birmingham Comedy Festival has to offer."
— BBC Radio WM
And THAT'S what The Late Night Sweet Shop is all about – a delightful evening of utter nonsense.
A massive thank you to everyone who came out to watch Birmingham's top Alternative Comedy show, & to all the acts for being inventive and brilliant.
Join us for our next absurd outing on Thursday 28th September!
Stick this in your diary...
THE LATE NIGHT SWEET SHOP returns to CherryReds cafe on Thursday 31st August!
Last month, we were treated to the immersive adventure of one man single-handedly ending World War Two by assassinating Werewolf Hi**er; we met a woman who was obsessed with lorries; witnessed the emotional breakdown of a children's entertainer; and got a guided tour through the CGI mean streets, courtesy of Waluigi. Who knows what's in store in the next show?
It's Birmingham's top monthly Alternative Comedy night, bringing you a selection box of the best weird and wonderful acts. And it's Pay What You Want! Frankly you'd be a fool to miss it.

Birmingham Comedy Festival returns in October 2023. Tons of great comedy shows are happening across the city, but I particularly recommend these 3 shows below which BY COMPLETE COINCIDENCE also happen to be 3 shows that I'm in.
Get yourselves over to www.bhamcomfest.co.uk to peruse the whole 10 days worth of events.
Last night’s Late Night Sweet Shop was an absolute joy. Thanks to everyone who came along to watch, and to all the acts for so brilliantly embracing the spirit of the night by each bringing their own flavour of imaginative experimental nonsense to the show.
From Mairead’s lorry obsession, to Amazing Anne’s fury at her own theme music; from Winston Churchill ordering werewolf assassinations in his bathtub to Waluigi’s Radio 2 listening habits - it was a vibrant cavalcade of ridiculousness. And that’s exactly what I wanted this gig to be.
If you haven’t yet been along to a Late Night Sweet Shop show, what are you waiting for? It’s the last Thursday of the month at CherryReds cafe - so the next one is 31st August. See you there!
Eric's won a picture book.
I won the Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Award! Still hasn’t really sunk in. It’s such an honour to be associated with Sean it makes me emotional thinking about it. Probs the best night of my life tbf. Feel proud and grateful and overwhelmed and powerful and vulnerable and hungover.
Shout-out from who has always believed in me. Shout-out my mum. Shout-out the Hollybush and Dave Francis who gave me a million gigs when I started. Shout-out the midlands comedy scene. Shout-out crowdwork clips edited in a 9:16 aspect ratio. Shout-out the original line up of the Sugababes. Shout-out Arnold T.Rice, Joe Bowley, Katy Trev, Mark Holmes, Alex Westbrook, Peter Riley, Richard Dadd, Finlay Christie, Jamie D’souza, Tom Dowling, Kieran Ahern, Sam Campbell, Josh Pugh and shout-out everyone I forgot to shout-out.

Word of warning to other Midlands comedy promoters: last night my gig (The Late Night Sweet Shop) was gatecrashed by a highly disruptive audience member.
He was about 2ft tall, with scruffy dark hair, a round nose and an orange necktie. He spoke in a very distinctive strangulated voice, almost as if he had his teeth clenched.
This man had no respect whatsoever for the comedians. He heckled and jeered and criticised the show throughout. I then foolishly allowed him to do a spot, just to shut him up really, and he proceeded to ruin the gig by being amateurish and offensive.
I try to make my gig an inclusive and welcoming place to all people, but I have had to take the very difficult decision to ban all ventriloquist dummies from now on. And sock puppets too. I know you shouldn’t tar a whole demographic with the same brush, but I’m not willing to take the risk anymore.
I will be offering refunds to everyone who feel their night was ruined, especially the woman who ran out crying.
