The 4-H Faur is just around the corner & lots going on before the livestock sale on July 29! Hope you’ll join us for Sam Shilts, Rural Appreciation & the Bake Sale on Friday evening! It’ll be a great kick off to the fair!

Last year the 4-H Livestock Premium sale was able to go under the wonderful McPherson County Community Foundation umbrella. What an amazing organization for our county! Next week is Match Week & you can support the livestock sale 4-Hers by writing ‘livestock sale’ in your check’s memo.

The goal is to form an endowment & your support will help us reach it!

As evidenced by my lack of pictures, last night’s Concerts for a Cause was a huge success! Sam Shilts was awesome as usual, the crowd was great & we’re thankful Hopp's Sno Shack invited us to be a part this summer!

We are so excited to be part of Hopp's Sno Shack Concerts for a Cause this year! Come join us this Thursday, Aug 4 and enjoy listening to the ever talented Sam Shilts! Concert begins at 7 p.m., but come early to grab some popcorn and sno cones! All proceeds this evening benefit the McPherson 4-H Livestock Premium Auction.

ATTN 4Hers: There will be a mandatory meeting following Fair cleanup on Tuesday, July 19th if you are planning on selling an animal at the premium auction. Please check you emails.

MKC will provide 10 $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students and 10 $1,000 scholarships to current college students.

Congratulations to Andrew Sylvester! An award well deserved. We were fortunate enough to have Mr. Sylvester come in last minute & auctioneer for the premium auction last year. So grateful for his work as it was a record setting year!

Andrew Sylvester of Wamego was named champion at the 2022 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship (WLAC) Midwestern Region qualifying event held November 10 at Cherokee Sales Co. located in Cherokee, OK. This was Sylvester’s first appearance at the event, where he also walked away with the title of High Score Rookie. He currently serves as the auctioneer for Manhattan Commission Company and Crossroads Real Estate & Auction.
A total of 30 contestants competed for a top ten placing, which would grant them a spot in the 2022 WLAC semifinals in Shipshewana, IN. Other Kansans advancing include Brandon Hamel, Natoma; Lynn Langvardt, Chapman, and Barrett Simon, Rosalia.

There are several piles of thank you pictures and buyers ribbons in the extension office still.

Buyers ribbons were delayed so thank you’s and ribbons should be done the week of the 16th. You should have received an email with your buyers this week.

Tonight is the night! The Premium auction begins at 7:30 p.m., but join us for a BBQ dinner at 6 p.m. in the big tent. It's been a great weekend at the 4-H Fair come out to support & congratulate Mac county 4-Hers on a successful fair!

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! Good luck to all participants!

We have floor prices for goats at $3.35/lb & sheep at $2.35/lb. They will be loaded Monday night and there will be a $5/head fee for trucking. Parents will need to sign a release of liability prior to loading. Please let us know at check in if you will be taking advantage of this.

The livestock sale is less than one week away! If you haven't already, we'd encourage you to reach out to potential buyers to invite them. Meal tickets and invites were sent to all past buyers, so still reach out to them as well. If you need tickets, please let us know here or reach out to Brad Smith or Shelby Shaw.

If you plan to sell at the sale, please complete this attached form by Saturday (7-24) and hand into Shelby Shaw, Janell Harmon or Marci Fox.

Sale flyers and brochures have been delivered to the Extension office if you would like to pick some up to take to take some to local businesses and invite them to come out and support the premium auction. There are also a handful of meal tickets at the Extension Office, these are reserved for new potential buyers only one or two tickets per 4Her please. Past buyers will be sent tickets and brochures in the mail.

Pre-entry deadline is Monday, May 17 in order to receive a free t-shirt! Show is June 5.

Update: as of 9/30 there is 18 beef slots and 8 hog/sheep slots available.

Krehbiel’s is taking reservations for 4H animals for the 2021 fair. They will only be allowing two animals per species per 4Her this year. Spots are limited so get your reservations in early. Also for 2021 if you plan on slaughtering an animal in a 4H spot that animal must be shown at the McPherson 4H fair.

Most of the premium and floor checks have been sent out, if you have not received your check we are waiting on one of your buyers to pay before we can issue your check.
