We are excited to have VDRs set up at popular small businesses around town for National Voter Registration Day!! Nonpartisan voter registration and education is important and in alignment with our mission to promote civic engagement.

Local volunteer group helping residents in need after devastating Temple tornado Today marks two weeks since a devastating tornado hit the city of Temple, and cleanup efforts are still underway.
Wake Up Temple and our volunteers were recently highlighted for the cleanup work we’ve done following the Temple Tornados. 🌪️ We love serving our community!

Today, 13 volunteers were able to serve our community in the following ways:
🥘 Warm meals, candles, flashlights, and hygiene delivered to a 21 residents in a vulnerable community STILL without power
🌳 🪚 Major limb/brush removal at 4 homes (3 of which were for elderly individuals)
We are so appreciative of those who volunteered their time and skills today. We can’t serve without the hands and hearts of our volunteers 🫶🏾

Whew! We have had a busy yet productive past two days helping out our community during this difficult time. We have worked a total of 10 cases through Crisiscleanup and have been able to help some of our elder, disabled, and medically impaired neighbors. Thank you so much to those who have volunteered 🙏🏾

Wake Up Temple is doing another clean up activation on Saturday 5/25. We will meet up at 8:45 am at Miller Park (1919 N 1st Temple) to game plan and discuss the cases we have picked up from the City. We will leave at 9 to the first location. There is an option to carpool for those interested in that. Bring PPE, trash bags, shovels and any other tools you can spare for clean up efforts.

Proposition A is on the ballot for tomorrow's election! Voters will be asked to vote FOR or AGAINST Proposition A. Proposition A would abolish the 0.5% additional sales tax under the category of Municipal Sales Tax for Property Tax Relief and adopt a 0.5% additional sales tax under General Sales and Use Tax.
This chart was created using actual fiscal year data, a vote “For” Proposition A would result in a Voter Approval Rate of 61.33 cents. If the City Council adopted the Voter Approval Rate, the property tax on a home with an assessed value of $200,000 that does not qualify for any homestead or other exemptions would be $1,227. A vote “Against” Proposition A would result in a Voter Approval Rate of 62.72 cents. If the City Council adopted the Voter Approval Rate, the property tax on a home with an assessed value of $200,000 that does not qualify for any homestead or other exemptions would be $1,254, or $27 and 2% higher than if Proposition A were approved.
