Dogs do not fail, they perform as trained. Dogs fail when we ask them to perform that which we have not adequately prepared them. -Steve White

This handsome boy, Ace, and his family have been training with us for about a month now. From the first day this family knew what they wanted for this boy and quickly got to work on all aspects. They have been working hard on manners in public, recall, and walking on leash even with distractions - which Ace is starting to show off. Ace is coming along very nicely and I can't wait to see all his accomplishments!

Happy first birthday to this girly!

Now an exceptional K9 partner in society, Maya has come a long way over the last 8 months after her owner decided to start the ever rewarding extended training journey.

Welcome D-Ray!

This little 4 month old mini golden doodle came to us to start puppy obedience and help curb puppy behavior, but also with future aspirations as a therapy dog. On their first lesson this last week everyone began a learning journey that will last a lifetime! We all can't wait to see what you'll grow into little D-Ray!

Ziggy and his owner have been practicing hard on how to behave in public and it shows! Ziggy is now walking on a loose leash with an abundance of checking in with his owner as they stroll through other people and their favorite place to practice is the local farmers market. AND a big accomplishment was tackled and started this weekend... Learning how to stay and focus in high distractions! Keep up the great work!

Ziggy had a great time learning the ropes with his new friend!

Congrats to these grads!
In The Name of K9's AKC S.T.A.R. puppy class' most recent graduate Asher, finished and completed her test this weekend with flying colors. Asher and her owner will continue training with us through both our owner trained therapy and service dog programs. Thank you for letting us partake in your journey. We are excited to see where the future takes you both!

Introducing Ziggy!

This little stud muffin and his owner are half way through their puppy obedience private lessons. So far they have worked hard and successfully learned how to sit, down, heal and manners walking out in public, place, shake paw, grooming and exam manners, and recall. Ziggy started training with us at 2 months of age after his owner contacted us for some help starting his training off on the right foot. We are very thankful for being a part of their journey and can't wait to see what Mr. Ziggy grows into.

PS. Guess Mr. Ziggy's breed and what his adult weight will be (keep in mind he is currently almost 4 months old)?

Introducing Bear
Bear and his family travel for work in healthcare and they contacted us for an extra hand with Bear's additional potty breaks and sometimes a chance to sunbathe while they are in the local area. Bear is truly an old soul that still tries to be as young as he can. We are very fond of this guy and we'll surely miss him and his snuggles when his family moves on to the next adventure in a different area!

Officially Meet Maya and her owner!
This team has been working with In the Name of K9 for awhile now and I keep forgetting to take a picture of them together... so here we are! Both Maya and her owner came to us with some training knowledge from online resources, but they both sought more direction and a structured training program designed for them to connect and advance into everything possible. Maya is such a silly sweet girl! With a lot of hard work and dedication this team is now a dream come true! Maya is now fully off leash trained and they have an even greater bond than they ever imagined. Stay tuned for what's next as this team will be dipping their toes into some fun events/activities! I'm so excited for this team's future and so happy to be a part of it!

Maya and her owner continue to overcome massive obstacles!

Last week I received an update from Maya's owner extatic after a slow and steady training session with Maya on the paddle board, they are now able to ride together as a team AND Maya is now officially a water dog and loves to swim! Congrats to the team, overcoming fears, growing, and bonding closer every day! We love when owners are excited to train and keep finding new ways to grow and bond with their K9!

Happy National Puppy Day!
Here's a little throw back to a few years ago when Jake was a wee little one and a couple years ago when Stella was still a pup (she was around 7 months when I rescued her)

Introducing Maya, an 6 month old GSP who has been training with In The Name of K9 for a couple months now.

This picture was sent from her owner this week, summing up her thoughts once the dreaded "cone of shame" came off and she was released to more active training sessions after health from her spay. Can you say someone's excited?

Stella wants to wish you and your family all a Merry Christmas from the Pack!

Photos from In The Name of K9 Training Academy's post 02/12/2023

The pack had the opportunity to watch the Parade of Lights the other night. Both sat like champs happily watching the commotion of people waving, loud vehicle horns and sirens, people and dogs walking by, kids throwing candy, and all sorts of flashing lights.

People ask me how I got lucky with such a good dog. My answer, lots of time and energy were put into these dogs teaching them how to live amongst us in our crazy fast passed human world and how to process and self soothe in situations that might be slightly uncomfortable, but most importantly how to turn for my guidance if they are unsure.

I can't say this enough, EXPOSURE is something that continually has to be revisited. One can't expect someone to have a neutral experience and for the rest of their life remember that sliver of time when it's never been revisited at any other time in their life. So in that regard, one can't expect the same for our canine partners. Now, if one was to visit a similar enough exposure every-so-often, with the majority of times being neutral, then it's more likely one would be comfortable in said situations. If the exposure is not more often neutral, this will in the end cause one to be more reactive. How to problem solve this? Look for or create more times to have a neutral exposure. And remember it doesn't have to be a lengthy exposure, just enough for the dog to understand and process.

With that said, exposure in its own definition is placing ones self in contact with, or at risk of, especially with something that may be likely to arouse disapproval (comfort). Making small moves into things uncomfortable increases one's skills to overcome obstacles, learn how to self soothe working through their initial emotion, and problem solve.

If you want your dog to know how to learn to live a calmer life in our human world and are not comfortable training your dog in your own in certain situations, it is recommended to find a balanced canine trainer to help both you, the handler, and your canine partner. Let us know, we can help!

A day late... But happy National Dog Day to these two gorgeous girls. My life/business wouldn't be like it is now without you two in it! You two are really my heart and soul dogs. Thank you for giving me your everything!

Making our name known out here requires a little extra, so now we regularly offer drop-in visits.

This last crew, Bruce and Rhino, were so much fun! They were self sufficient with automatic food/water bowls and a doggie door, though I was needed for giving medication and of course a little daily play time.

Happy Independence Day!

Thank you to all who have served

Photos from In The Name of K9 Training Academy's post 03/07/2023

The big move across the country left us a little MIA. But now we are back in full swing. Currently we are offering not only training, but baths, nail trims, walks, and drop in visits.

Bruce and Rhino were my first clients here and they actually just moved to the area from out of state as well. These boys sure are great for their walks and just love "doing"! Walking here can be a challenge between the heat and storms, so definitely happy for clients that are easy to communicate with for the sake of their pets!

We have arrived at our final destination!

Cape Girardeau is our new home and we are excited to run this town. The trip went well and I'm so thankful these guys love road trips/being in the car. Here, we already managed to make an impression and made a few connections that will benefit us... we can't wait for more!

Cheddar's foster was at her wits end trying to help him with his OCD and tendency to bite his tail/rear end, especially when bored. With an unknown past all medical was ruled out prior and they were left with a dog that just didn't know what to do. The rescue reached out to us and after their first lesson we were able to formulate a plan so Cheddar and his foster can succeed quickly! Now, OCD behavior is curbed and with a new mindset in place it has allowed these two to learn how to communicate clearer. Next, is working on some more obedience and manners to keep this boy engaged and learning. I'm so excited to see what Cheddar's future has in store for him -he is such a sweet boy that just wants to do it all.

This boy is in Foster, so if you are interested in him contact Murci's Mission
