Japhy Sullivan Music
Fool with a fiddle, making music and flinging it out into the universe
Still haven't decided if your coming to see me and Eleuthera play at Cafe la Ligne Verte this Saturday?
Maybe this taste of last week's show at MERA will help sway you one way or the other. Don't let your Indecision Be The Death Of You.

Happy World Fiddle Day!
Here’s a coupla tune’s fore ya: https://youtu.be/cyKQuuIj06M
First one is called Tossing Over The Waves. I found it trawling through the bible of Irish music that is O’Neils 1850.
Second one is called Off She Goes, it’s a popular session tune. And yes I wish it had made musical sense to record them in the opposite order, how fun would it have been if the name of the set was Off She Goes Tossing Over The Waves?
I recorded these back in 2020, when I was simultaneously attempting to teach myself how to record, use a camera, and use video editing software. I wasn’t completely happy with the resulting performance so I never posted it.
Anyway, I came across it again while I was cleaning my hard drive last week, and with a bit more temporal distance I can now see that, while there are defo some flubs, there’s also some fun stuff in there too, so I thought I’d finally share it with y’all.
Hope you enjoy!
P.S. Obligatory reminder - I’m playing a couple of shows in the next couple weeks! MERA on May 28th (https://fb.me/e/3lOuuQcjK) and Cafe La Ligne Verte in Montreal on June 3rd with the incredible Eleuthera (https://fb.me/e/2yvH3FZS3). They’re both gonna be fabulously fun events, come on out!

Far-Flung Friends and Fam:
(and by far-flung I mostly mean montreal + eastern ontario)
I’m playing TWO shows within the next month. I’m super excited for both of them and would be truly tickled pink if any y’all in the area would care to attend;
MAY 28th, MCDONALDS CORNERS: I’ll be playing a solo show at MERA which is one of my favourite music rooms in the whole wide world. I grew up seeing shows there (and often helping putting them on!) and so so many of my most formative musical experiences were in that room. I’m so delighted to be playing there again.

JUNE 3rd, MONTREAL: I’ll be playing at a fantastic spot called Café La ligne Verte. It’s right by Frontenac metro and just down the road from the studio where I’ve been working on recording my debut album for the past year. I’ll be sharing the bill at this show with Eluthera (https://www.facebook.com/eleutheramusic) who, in addition to being a dear friend, is an absolutely knockout performer: she’s got soul, guts, charm, vulnerability, and so much more in her songs and her singing. Gonna be a fabulous evening of music.

If you are interested in either of these shows, please consider buying an advance ticket. It always helps make these shows viable!
That’s all for now. As always; live music is better, bumper stickers should be issued

Happy Spookymas Y'all! This week me, my doppelganger, and our posthumous roommate Boris all got together to jam on some thematically appropriate Halloween-y fiddle tunes. Hope you enjoy.
