Child safety experts have sounded the alarm on a broad array of apps that put youngsters right in the path of predatory pa******les creating a "candy land for creeps".

At issue are apps such as TikTok, Bigo Live, Imvu, Likee and even SnapChat and its dating spinoff Yubo, among many others that allow young users to create and post videos, livestream themselves, talk to each other and exchange images.
Trouble is, not everyone the young users talk to is their age.

'Gateway for predators'

UK mum revealed how she discovered her nine-year-old daughter was being harassed through the app into sending n**e pics of herself.

The girl was told she would be taken away from her mother if she did not comply.

And The Manchester Evening News reported that much of the contact happened while the girl was in the same room as her parents -using her mother's tablet to communicate with the sicko.

"Any site, app or game with a chat or live video function which facilitates interactivity can serve as potential gateways for predators to contact young people,"

"Parents are trying to keep ahead of it, but it is so hard," she said.

"But they do need to be engaged with their children's online life as they are with their offline lives.

"Online and offline is exactly the same thing, you need to be involved with both."

"It is changing, this is an image-based generation and they often send pictures first and then they talk."

But Pendergast warns it is not as easy as simply banning one app.

"It is not just one particular app that is the worst, this is right across the board," she said.

And often there is cross-pollination.

Pendergast said TikTok users take screenshots that end up on Likee - unknown to the TikTok user.

"And before you know it they're in creep catalogues on the dark web," she said.

"The ones I tell kids to get off immediately are TikTok and everything like that where there is a direct threat of predatory behaviour .

"It's candyland for creeps."
