With the wildfires blazing at full speed and the number of those impacted by COVID-19 climbing everyday, our lung health has never been more important. Masks have been a proven method to help contain the virus and protect our lungs from the poor quality air.
Sister Nora's Place is taking this issue head on and is in need of supplies for their mask making project. Help us keep our community safe and donate elastic bands, straight pins (for sewing), and fabric so we can make the masks we need.

Measure A is Defeated!
As you may have heard, yesterday we had a complete and total victory at the Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA)!!! We had a MASSIVE victory!!!
Congratulations to all of you! Without one dissenting vote, the Sacramento Transportation Authority voted to completely rescind Measure A – the proposed $8.4 billion sales tax increase of a half-cent county-wide
Just two months ago, seven government entities were relentlessly pushing this tax forward. Yesterday the tax was revoked unanimously.
SacTax members worked the media with numerous Op-Eds, radio shows, TV coverage of our July 14 rally and the like. We did videos (English and Spanish) to get the word out! We did email blasts to alert everyone possible within our community and they responded.
And of great interest, we were able to weave together such a broad, diverse coalition of farmers, NAACP, retailers, chambers of commerce, Hispanics, veterans, National Action Network, taxpayer advocates, and more! It was a remarkable experience!
According to yesterday's staff consultant report to the Board of the STA, “should any organized opposition materialize, the measure will not be viable.”
Well, friends, we were the “organized opposition” and your voices were heard!
As I have said, “We are stronger together than you can imagine.” Business leaders have declared, “This is....in a word....HUGE! So awesome.” Other government leaders have called this “Totally unbelievable!”
What a wonderful victory and it sets the stage for us to tackle other key public policy issues, as well as to work with the STA and other government organizations in the months ahead. :-)
As the chair of the overall SacCountyResidentsAgainstMeasureA coalition, and President of SacTax, it was wonderful to work with so many hard-working, faithful members of our organization and community.
And while I could not list everyone here who assisted, and I know I would accidentally leave someone out if I tried, let me just thank all of you. Thank you for all that you have done for ourselves, our community, and our children!
But, let me give one special shout-out to our SacTax Executive Director, Jack Frost, who tirelessly worked on every detail of this campaign with me. I started every day by 7am and ended between 10 and 11 pm, and during that time I saw and spoke with Jack every day – seven days a week. This was a full-time job for both of us. Between text, Zoom, phone calls, and meetings, I spent more time with Jack than my own family! :-) Thank you, Jack, for your dedication.
We have much to celebrate!!! We can take a brief rest and we'll start to tackle our next big issues together. :-) God bless you all!
We are in the midst of attempting to host a third-party presidential debate. Stay Tuned.
