What a fun and busy two-day week we had! Students got creative for ‘anything but a backpack day’ and dress up day. We strengthen our community by communicating, collaborating, and designing. And finally, the 4th and 5th grade teachers put on a show and played family feud to reward our students for such a successful Check-a-thon!
We could not be more proud of the bravery shown by our fifth graders in the school spelling bee. They may not have won, but they were so impressive overcoming their nerves and performing their best! They should be so proud.
We are extremely grateful to all of our veterans! Thank you to everyone who came to WGA yesterday to help us honor their kindness, adaptability, and bravery.
Last two weeks as a fifth grader… we celebrated Mr. Thomas and wished him well for his wedding, had an epic Battle of the Books competition, collaborated on different perspectives and big ideas of Westward Expansion, went on a field trip to Gammage to see all types of bodies and abilities dance, presented stories about how the power went out in a format the student chose, and so much more!
More zoetrope presentations.
In addition to our 3D zoetrope presentations today, our fifth graders showcased beautiful portfolios of their work from the past few weeks. If your child forgot to show you make sure they do! Here are just a few teasers.
Another week in fifth grade means more deliveries of kindness projects! We love how they take time at home to make the most thoughtful things for others on campus and brighten their day by delivering them!
They have been working hard, collaborating, constructing, and practicing presentations! They can’t wait for you to be their audience tomorrow at Brave Beginnings!
Students dress like a teacher and teachers dress like students was a hysterical success.
Collaborating and problem solving together is key to feeling successful in math and having a positive mindset towards the challenges we explore.
Today we began dropping our Youtopia landers and collecting data. Who will have the best final score?!
Our first couple of kindness projects have been gifted! In fifth grade we practice kindness daily and the students get to choose someone else on campus to make a kindness project for. The look on these kids faces says it all! I love watching them deliver the projects because it brings so much joy to their hearts.
A day on the life of a WGA fifth grader. We love to learn outside when the weather permits, conduct hands on investigations in math, lift each other’s spirits, persevere through hard moments, and always work towards a positive growth mindset.
Creative writing in fifth grade is a blast when you do it as a game. The students loved this creative writing practice and couldn’t wait to share their stories. One student even said it was the most fun he had ever had writing and he usually hates to write. That’s a win.
Our fifth grade community has done an amazing job collaborating, following new norms, and persevering through many new challenges so far.
Fifth graders brought in their Buggin’ Out projects today to showcase themselves to our new community. We were not disappointed.
What an amazing first day! We talked about failing, rejection, taking a chance and just asking, and practiced collaborating/communicating. The engineering challenge was a big hit! Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow.
What an event! There was so much to engage with and wonder about! All of these amazing ideas came to life today at the Wonders of Weinberg. We hope you had an experience that you won’t forget with your fifth grader.
Fifth graders had a great time collaborating with today! We can’t show you everything they created together but here is a sneak peek. The final result will be seen at our WOW event!
These sketches from our collaborative brainstorming phase of the design process are looking amazing. Can’t wait to see where they take their ideas. Stay tuned for more information about our newest project … Weinberg Wonderopolis.
Connecting math to the world around us. Seeing math in engineering, art, and construction. Solving problems and justifying our builds through math and justifying our math through builds. These fifth graders loved it.
This week we had presentations based on the roles people play in groups which led to some really rich conversations based on their experiences. We are starting our next project and working in groups is hard! It is important for us to continue to build a strong foundation in collaboration before we begin our work with these groups.
Our fifth grade HISEF winners proudly represented us at AzSEF this week. It takes a lot of bravery to give a speech to numerous judges! One of our teams even placed 2nd in the state in the chemistry category!
Fifth grade math club was so much fun! We love that these kids choose to come and experience math in new ways and have a blast at the same time.
All student led, right down to the advertising….
Student social media takeover! Check out one of the advertisements made by our very own Sreenitya! See you there.
Look at these happy faces! These are the faces of fifth graders who just found out they are HISEF winners! We are so proud of the hard work and perseverance of these groups!
There is some great problem solving taking place in class right now to get the Trashion projects started! Look out for student created advertising for the show starting tomorrow.
