in 1943, the US Army Air Forces Antisubmarine Command B-24D Liberator, Tidewater Tillie, made an attack on a German U-Boat. Initially, it was credited with sinking U-519 as that sub was reported as missing on this date. Post-war research indicates that the U-519 was last heard from on January 31 of that year with no explanation as to its actual disposition, and that the submarine attacked by Tidewater Tillie was likely, in fact, to have been U-752 which was only damaged in the attack.
