Si San Lorenzo ay nag-alay ng kanyang buhay para sa mga mahihirap, binuwis niya ito sa pagbibigay ng kanilang mga pangangailangan. Kahit siya ay iniihaw, nakapagpuri at nakapagpasalamat pa rin siya sa Diyos at winika sa mga taga-usig: “Luto na ang isang panig, baliktarin niyo na at kainin."

On Good Friday, we commemorate the ultimate sacrifice. On this day, we acknowledge the weight of sin and the depth of God's love, as Jesus willingly endured unimaginable suffering for our sake. Good Friday reminds us of the significance of forgiveness, compassion, and selflessness that Jesus endured, urging us to reflect on our own lives and the ways we can embody these virtues.

Holy Thursday is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. The Last Supper was the final meal Jesus shared with his Disciples in Jerusalem, when he established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. It also commemorates His institution of the priesthood.

“…Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks,and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father.” — Matthew 26: 26-29

Holy Wednesday is also called “Spy Wednesday” because it is the day that Judas agreed to betray Jesus in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.

"Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, 'What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?' And they paid him thirty pieces of silver." — Matthew 26:14-16

As Jesus returns to Jerusalem from Bethany, Jesus passes the fig tree whom he cursed on Monday. He used this opportunity to teach the disciples about faith;

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. ” — Matthew 11:24-25

Meaning that with faith they will have the power to curse or bless the world around them, just as he did with the fig tree.

As we enter the Holy Monday, let us delve into the profound symbolism of Matthew 21:19. Contemplate the encounter with the fig tree, a poignant reminder of the importance of bearing fruit in our lives. Just as Jesus found no fruit upon the tree, may we reflect on our own actions and intentions. Let this day mark a moment of introspection and renewal, as we strive to cultivate the fruits of faith, compassion, and righteousness in our journey through this sacred week.

Palm Sunday is a celebration we are all too familiar with, the swaying of palm branches after a Sunday mass. The palm branch signifies victory and triumph, it represents the cheering crowd as Jesus enters Jerusalem while riding a donkey, and it is a reminder for Christians to welcome Jesus into their hearts and to be willing to follow him. Let us celebrate Palm Sunday peace in our hearts, as we welcome Jesus in our lives.
