During my studies, Irving Penn quickly became a significant inspiration to me. His ability to capture the truest nature of a stranger, outside of their own environment, mesmerized me. In many ways his work ignited a greater curiosity for people and their stories.

Here, Penn set up a tented studio in the souk of Khenifra, a town in central Morocco surrounded by the Atlas Mountains. Portraits from his fascinating book “Worlds in a small room”, 1974.

The photo that started it all 💭
Many many years ago, this image was scorched into my mind, quickly becoming a metaphor for my own life, and maybe for everyone’s life. A tiny seed was planted deep in my soul; the idea of roaming this World free, without fear into the vast unknown, alone. I was both envious and concerned for the Lone Fox...where is she going? is she alone? Does she need food? is she lost?

But these were merely human reactions. The Fox does not fear in the same way, she trusts her own instincts to get her there. Could I(we) really do the same?

Her confidence and her fierceness resonated so deeply, I changed almost my entire life dreaming of the animal’s path...or maybe was it my own path? Or all of our paths?

Well now, If art school taught me anything it’s how to write a novel by dissecting an art piece, so let’s stop here before we get too existential! 😆
TAJMI is to me - the biggest journey yet, and I welcome anyone who wants to come with us 🤎🐆
