U.S. Army obstacle courses forge both the physical and mental fortitude essential for success in military service. They might look like fun from the outside - and to some, they are - but these rigorous challenges push initial entry trainees to their limits, demanding resilience in the face of adversity.
Most importantly, these courses emphasize the importance of teamwork, as trainees learn to rely on one another for support and guidance, embodying the readiness and camaraderie that define the ethos of the Army.
It takes an extra amount of courage to face the fire. Would you try this training?

Soldiers assigned to the Pennsylvania National Guard, 56th Striker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, departed Jan. 1, 2024, for a nearly yearlong deployment to Africa to support U.S. Army Europe and Africa and partner forces with security objectives in the region.
Maj. Gen. Mark McCormack, commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division; Brig. Gen. Laura McHugh, deputy adjutant general-Army; Command Sgt. Maj. Shawn Phillips, senior enlisted leader, Penn. National Guard; and other officials greeted Soldiers as they boarded the plane to leave Pennsylvania.

Soldiers of the 211th Regional Support Group competed in the Brigade Best Warrior Competition (BWC) at La Copa Ranch, Texas.
The 2023 BWC is an annually-recurring competition that brings in the best Soldiers from across the Brigade to earn the title of “Best Warrior.”

Every year over the holiday season, the U.S. Army provides trainees in Basic Combat Training an opportunity to go home to be with their loved ones.
This year, around 6,000 trainees are traveling for "holiday block leave."
