This pic is an oldie but goodie of Jeannie. **Jeannie emergency update as the vet was able to come today instead. Medical problems with very old goats r always potentially serious and my unfortunate news is that it is not a dental problem. They did radiographs and cytology (etc) and the odds are it is a tumor. A fast growing one too as it is bigger today than yesterday even. We have to wait for results now but treatment of cancer would be managing her pain with meds, cbd and warm compresses. The bill was 1370 rather than the ~1700 estimated. We so appreciate those who have been able to contribute as it will all go towards this bill and her meds/care. Jeannie is our matriarch and such a calming presence to all the goats here. I’m just so grateful she could be with us these past 6 years. She has enriched the lives of so many people with her sweet spirit! 🙏🙏🙏

General Grant…it doesn’t happen often but he always knows when I forget to lock the gate into the walkway🙄😬. To me, this is the hoof trim station or some other animal care station but to him, it is “what treat do you have for me today?!” 😆🤩😍
We are looking for a friend for this sweet boy Merlin!
Community Volunteer Day: Fortuna Ranch Farm Sanctuary - *|https://mailchi.mp/47cddeb8047a/volunteer-day-at-fortuna-ranch-farm-sanctuary|*
My “baby” boy AND protector of our sanctuary (Ollie – he’s 10!) suffered an accident on the farm this week!! He sort of impaled his leg on something (not sure what so going around trying to find what he could have done!) After a late night surgery, he is stitched up with a drainage bag and recovering! It is always so hard to see our furry animals suffer especially when they can’t talk and tell us exactly how they feel. I’m thankful we can give him the care he needs!! I know he is anxious to get back on his feet and resuming his self-appointed protector duties!
Lots of projects and lots of goat time…and it looks like we will get a break by Saturday from this crazy hot weather!!!!
We are hosting a Farm Gathering at Fortuna Ranch Farm Sanctuary. It’ll be a time of community including food, discussion and farm time. We hope you can come! Sign up at www.fortunaranchfarmsanctuary.com/calendar
Our July community event is around the corner! Check out the link in our bio to sign up. The goats can’t wait to see you!
Happy Friday friends! Please send some good vibes to Venus, Serena and Princess Laya!! So not all life at the sanctuary is fun and games, though the goats do their best to keep that fun vibe going. We do have residents that either came with health issues or have developed some. The most perplexing is a recent one. I’ve got 2 females that came to us a year ago with some hormone issues and precocious udders, whether this contributed to this new issue I’m not sure (transferring hormone imbalances???), but we have 3 female does who have never been pregnant (Our philosophy at our sanctuary is not to breed as there are so many animals desperate for good homes, so all our males are fixed). A few weeks ago, these three began experiencing what the vet refers to as “false pregnancies”. Their udders filled in part or fully with milk/fluid, and my Venus’ udders actually became engorged. For the past 2.5 weeks, we’ve been doing cabbage leaves on her udders with warm compress twice daily. The inflammation went down quickly to where I can massage her udders with some oils. We hope she is out of the woods on the inflammation, and we’re hoping some of our other treatments help her. She isn’t pregnant so this is just so strange – she’s been quite distressed so we are doing our best to keep her comfortable and make sure the engorgement doesn’t return (and we’ve been under supervision from our vet!). Thanks for the support and good vibes headed their way!!! 🙏❤️
Monthly volunteer days are back! Looking forward to farm time with some existing and new friends of the farm! See link in our bio to tap into our website or type in the link from the picture! 🐐
Charles is having a chill Memorial Day, how about you?
Easter Sunday snapshot on the farm while the goats are eating their breakfast - may you have a blessed day!
How’s your Sunday? Easy breezy here at the farm, thankful for the freedom our animals have to love their best life. All those who don’t have it, whether human or animal, are in our hearts. ❤️❤️❤️
Anyone in the office or in cold weather? Just imagine you are with Miss Daisy chillin in the California sun, watching her herd mates snack in the pasture! ❤️
Fritzl and Mick Jagger….Frenemies or besties? Sometimes I wonder given these two have been vying for herd leader for the past year since my Henry passed away. Some days I think they have decided to share the responsibility and other days they are battling it out! But regardless they still love to hang out together on their porch!
Spring on the farm is starting.
Thought I’d start sharing a bit more about each of our goats! Meet Han Solo! He’s been with us since May. My one horned precious handsome boy! About 1 1/2 years old and I don’t know his full past but he is definitely is dealing with past fear and anxiety. It has been heart-warming to see him start to trust me but he still has my number! If I come near him with a leash, he knows I want to trim his hooves and he bolts! Someday he will realize hoof trim day is like spa day where he gets some snacks while I trim him up! 🤩❤️. He enjoys his BFFs Luke and Laya the most but has made several friends in the herd already and I’ve love to watch his confidence grow. I bet there are some parents or kids out there that can relate to this on a human level!!
Another beautiful day at the farm! 4 pics taken within a minute or two. Luke and Venus starting off a little shy but then quickly moving to some tender moments! ❤️😍❤️😍
Like Serena and Han Solo, we all need someone to lean on sometimes!
Anyone else hanging out with their friends today? Happy Saturday!
Today I turn 50 – WOW!! We are celebrating this milestone Gatsby style – the Great GOATSBY!!! Wherever you are, raise a glass to toast our 13 amazing rescue goats we have the blessing of caring for each day. Being a ½ century old is a time of reflection on my life’s passion and mission, which culminated with my husband and I establishing Fortuna Ranch Farm Sanctuary as a 501(c)(3) organization last year. Here at our sanctuary, our mission is to promote positive change in a world that is environmentally compromised, by driving compassionate farm animal rescue, introducing plant-based living, teaching regenerative agriculture and educating the next generation. We have the privilege of hosting teen volunteer and youth coaching programs where the next generation can meet and care for farm animals, put their hands in the soil, help grow healthy food and learn how they can help our planet recover and thrive. We are raising funds for our goats’ special needs, food, bedding and veterinary care. Please donate today – even $5 will go a long way! https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=F6BYJUFNRU5MG Or visit our website at www.fortunaranchfarmsanctuary.com and hit the donate button!

Jeannie and Millie showing what true friends are for!
Dory loves chillin’ with her goat buddies Luke Skywalker and Millie!
Besties Millie and Jeannie…love how Millie always let’s Jeannie use her as an itching post!
It’s been a month and a half since we welcomed Princess Laya and her brother Luke Skywalker and their BFF Han Solo. They are doing really well! Han would not let us go near him when he first came so we have been giving him space and building trust as he is very watchful. He will now come up and sniff my hand and let me give him “bootie rubs” so I count that as great progress! They are a lovely crew, so sweet, and are enjoying the delights of lounging in the sand pasture, tasting mineral blocks, hanging out on the back porch of the summer barn looking out at the breath-taking views, and enjoying their new herd. Counting my blessings for these three!
Meet Maggie Q and Daisy Duke! These two ladies were going to be killed because they were no longer useful to the owner. They are around 4 and while they need some care from the neglect they suffered through, in the three weeks since they have been with us, they have settled in well with the others and already are doing good in their new herd!! ❤️❤️❤️
Welcome Princess Laya, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo! They have been with us a week and are settling in! Han is very shy still, Laya is the leader and her brother Luke very much likes head scratches! Stay tuned for when we intro them to the rest of the herd!!! They r super sweet and so adorable!
Goat selfie contest! Starting top left and going clockwise: Venus, Mick Jagger, General Grant and Serena. Who’s the winner? 🤩😆😬
Charlie says no one wants to play with him today! Everyone is too busy chillin’!
Experiences & Education. Animals, Plants and Soil are the keys to restoration.
At Fortuna Ranch Farm Sanctuary our goal is to allow people to experience animals and where food comes from. To give these friends (not food) a good life. As well as educate people about restorative farming practices. To be a place where you can put your hands in the soil and reconnect with nature. We believe that restoring soil is the best way to restore our earth and our health. It is simple yet profound. Our farm is meant to be centrally located near the coast and city so that it is accessible yet peaceful. An easy way to connect and restore. Contact us to get involved.
