Kurt Oatway, Paralympian
I'm a Paralympic Athlete competing in the sitting class for the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team (CPAST
First camp of the year in Chile 🇨🇱🌶️
Just wrapped up the last training camp of the 2022/2023 season in Norway. Now starts the off season to rest for a bit then to dive back into the S&C grind to push the limits for next season!
Hitting the podium yesterday was met with mixed emotions, I was glad to be up there representing Canada and but also wanting more. It's been a long road through COVID and injury and there is still a long road to still travel but with the support of my Nation, Family, Friends, Team and all the people who care, it's a road well traveled.
Racing here in Spain at the Para World Championships has been tough the last few days but having a great team and support staff helps allot.
More than just equipment needed to be rebuilt this season. Last year was easily the toughest season I've been through. With season ending crashes at World Championships resulting in destroyed equipment and culminating in broken a collar bone, ribs and a damaged lung! I've rehabbed and healed well, rebuilt what was destroyed, and am eager to get back to the real work of climbing back up the ranks
New things are in the works...👻👻👻
This post is for all the people that like to bug me about Calgary never being Green. As you can see their is plenty of green!!
Had my 18 week checkup not to long ago, im good to go for Summer Dryland and start the hard work to come back for next season!!!
The Games are over and most athlets are home, congratulations to everyone. While "participating in" turned to "watching on " was not planed it was still a thrill to watch. Im so proud of my team for all of their experiences and accomplishments. Also a fond fairwell to a great coach and friend, Cheers 😸🍻JS🍻😸
It was great to watch Team Canada kick off the Alpine events with the Men's Downhill and Women's GS today!!! 🍁Go Team CANADA!!!🍁
⚠️WARNING⚠️ X-Ray⚠️Before and after pictures onf my shoulder, not the way I had planned on spending my time in Norway. But I'm glad the surgery is done and I can now focus on healing. Its going to be a long 12 weeks but with the help of all the amazing members of Team Canada I'll have the best possible support.
Theres no easy way to say things like this but yesterday I was in the most serious crash of my sporting career. While preparing to compete in the 2022 World Para-Alpine Skiing World Championships in Norway I was injured in a crash during the Second Downhill Training Run. I sufferd injuries to my left side including a broken colarbone and 5 fractures of varying degree in 3 ribs, with contusions to my left lung. Doctors say my outlook is good and the bulk of my recovery will be pain management over the next 6 to 8 weeks with full recovery after roughly 12 weeks. I am staying positive in mind and spirit and will be focusing on healing and continuing my journey in the sport that I love. Unfortunately this means that I will not be able to represent Canada in the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in China. We all have setbacks in life and I have always believed that it is how one ovecomes them that defines who they are. I will be back and I will be shooting for the top, I just need a bit of time to heal.
Early morning training here in Panorama, looking forward to Mammoth, Cali
And the travel back home begins, adiós Corralco!
