It was my intention to piece together a retrospective post with photos of all the most poky moments of the year

But it's still the holidays and I want to be present for my boys and Nina, so I'm snatching a moment in the carpark of the Bedmo Asda to just write this

For every gig you've shown the f up to, from Newcastle to Falmouth, Edinburgh to Bideford. There haven't been that many this year because it's been a year of Creation, in a way I haven't allowed for a long time

For coming and being a part of the Listening Parties in Bristol and London to which only Patrons and friends were invited. Blindfolded, meeting each other in the total blackness with the grand piano playing, then giving our ears to the raggedy, wild magic of the Alive At The End Of The World album. I've never listened like that before.

For every comment, Like, share you've given your time to do. It matters more than you know to artists of my strangeness. It's the wind in the sails

For every penny of subscription here on Patreon. It's meant hours and hours of creative time in the studio. It's meant being able to pay people to take parts of the weight of the work that enable the work to happen. It's meant time and space for research and learning about what's been happening in Israel / Palestine, and then time for writing and recording the writings. Rehumanising, understanding, helping me find a way through the sh*tstorm of opposition and conflict.

And your Patreon subscriptions have also meant I could pay for time at Total Refreshment Centre in London, to capture a full day of fu**in magic with some of the most unhinged musical talents I know; the session which has become the new Dizraeli album, out in March come on

They've also meant I could take the risk of launching the Lovestream, the descendant of the Mad Lovestreams of lockdown. A monthly livestream sharing new work and a cover each time, digging through the lesser known Diz makings and generally, bringing the kind of courage and unprecious approach that that kind of regularity requires. We are two episodes deep and I know in my bones it's going to be a fertile and important commitment for me. Thank you.

Thank you also for enabling a week in Newcastle writing and recording with Part Lion, the new band project which I promise you will see work from in 2024

For enabling the unfolding experiment that is the Animal Noises spoken word / sound show, which is a thread I know I'll continue to pull on down the decades. It's weird and tender and free. I needed it.

And thank you most of all for your persistence, for staying here with me, for being real and attentive ears....

It's hard to really describe the levels of insecurity and self doubt that being an artist in the 2020's entails (I tried to capture some of that here) but suffice to say that without Patreon; if I had to exist only in the bruising, whipping wilderness of angst and comparison that is the Feckin Socials, and Feckin Spotify, and the miseritrudge of YouTube now where most views are paid for... if it was just that, I truly don't think I'd still be here making.

You are a place I can come to plug in to the Mother Tree, feel some actual humanity, know there are 180 humans (and counting) with enough faith in me to contribute some very hard-earned time and money to the mission.
