Just loving drawing Mabel- those eyes are so innocent- being I puppy I can imagine she’s not so innocent! 🤦‍♀️😂 I always like to start with eyes first because they, to me are the most important part of capturing the pup’s character. If the eyes aren’t right it can throw the whole portrait off. Lots of layering to create the glassy eye effect. 👁️👁️

Pepper is finished and ready to be gifted! Absolutely loved drawing her and I can’t wait to see her owners faces when they open her up! Seeing clients reactions makes it all worthwhile!

My latest commission is slowly emerging on the page! Meet Pepper- the cutest little French bulldog! Having the best time capturing the softnest of her fur and the huge range of colours within it (blues,greys,pinks, browns and violets!) The joy of working with coloured pencils is using an array of tones/colours to create the true depth and texture of the fur through laying the pencils on the paper. Those folds around her mouth have been challenging but coming together now. Lots more to do but definitely in my happy place with this one! I hope she makes you smile 😊 Happy Friday everyone!

Kitty’s 🐈🐈🐈

Been a stressful time of late but have finally managed to complete my triple cat portrait! Yay! Really loved drawing these kitty’s- Timmy,Floss and Tiggy. A memorial piece for a regular client (her 4th portrait!) so lucky to have such wonderful clients!

This is the first cat of a triple cat memorial portrait! Meet Tiggy… such a sweetie to draw this beautiful tabby- still lots to do but loving the process so far! Hope you like him and he brightens up your day!

Extremely excited to be able to share this very special memorial portrait. This horse-Papineau was not just your average horse. He was a British thoroughbred racehorse. After Papineau's retirement from racing, he was re-trained to compete in horse shows and dressage events. He also worked as a therapy horse that provided equine-assisted therapy through visits to hospitals and hospices such as Newmarket Hospital and East Anglia's Children's Hospices. He was a finalist for the inaugural Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust Retraining of Racehorses Community Impact Award, and his achievements were celebrated at the Retraining of Racehorses Awards on 31 January 2024. Papineau was euthanised on 4 February 2024, at the age of 23. He had recently been diagnosed with heart issues. His death was devastating for those who trained and looked after him as he touched so many. This picture was taken moments before he passed away peacefully in his field with his friends. The emotion this picture evokes is incredible and my goal was to capture this in my portrait. It was an emotional but wonderful experience to complete this and I feel honoured to have been asked to capture ‘the last goodbye’ 💙

Here is the finished version of darling Gwen! I have never been too keen on pugs but she’s definitely won my heart ❤️ although very sadly Gwen passed away whilst I was completing this portrait 🥲 She was a good age though (14) and had a lovely life. Her owner still has her husband and son so her bloodline lives on. Loved every minute of this commission and it was great to try watercolour paper for a change and I feel it worked really well. Hope you all like her… and she makes you smile like she does me! 😀✍️

Working on Gwens nose and mouth is proving to a real challenge so just building up the layers at the moment before adding the details…also still learning the new paper. Hope you like her so far… I just can’t help but smile when I’m drawing her she’s so cute 😀

Looking back on 2023 and the wonderful commissions I feel honoured to have been asked to do and the wonderful people I have met along the way. Amazing memories to look back on 🥰 Thanks again to all of you for the support and kindness throughout the year it really means the world to me… roll on 2024 and hopefully lots more portraits to come. So proud of this piece- was quite tricky due to the reference picture quality and also adapting the portrait to not include the halter. Capturing the sunlight was also a learning curve and I really enjoyed working with the warm tones always a favourite of mine. Mickey was a memorial commission for a lovely local lady whose late husband bought her Mickey many years ago and she’s thrilled with my portrait and thinks I’ve captured him superbly! Makes me feel so happy- just love creating these special keepsakes! ❤️

Been building up the glossy layers on Mickey this week- trying to create that beautiful sunlight on his coat has been a hard challenge and lots more to do but super happy with him so far… the amount of colours I’ve used is vast all the way from pinks, yellows and oranges to blues, browns and violets! My client doesn’t want me to include the bridle so that’s another challenge to overcome 🤞All part of the learning process! Hope you like him so far…
