With the call for more disability-inclusive policies, it is important to know what disability-related costs are. 💸
We must understand the grave impact of these expenses on persons with disabilities and their families to see why we need to urge our policy makers to help address these costs. 📣
People with disabilities spend more but earn less. 💸
They need to cover disability extra costs which means that they have additional expenses in their day to day lives. These disability specific expenses vary from person to person. Sadly, families with these extra costs struggle to get by financially.

DOH reported up to 9, 838 new COVID-19 cases today. This is your reminder to wash your hands frequently, wear masks, and to only go out if it’s necessary!
Stay safe, everyone! 😷
With the sudden surge of COVID-19 cases in the country, wearing masks is a simple practice that helps protect others as well as yourself! 😷
Here’s a few guidelines to remember:
- Always wear masks any time you are in a public setting.
- Make sure that it completely covers nose, mouth and chin. It also must fit snugly against the sides of the face without gaps. Masks with valves or holes is a big no-no!
- Wash your hands for 20 seconds before putting your mask on and after taking it off.
- Have a clean plastic bag with you to store your mask in when you take it off.
- If you use fabric masks, wash it daily. If you use medical masks, dispose of these properly after every use.
As an additional safety precaution, observe social distancing! Maintain at least 6 feet apart, especially around other people who don’t live in your household.
Stay safe! ♥️

Today is World Water Day! 💧
Did you know that 2.2 people lack access to safe drinking water?
Access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is essential to reduce transmission of disease. However, people with disabilities still face barriers in accessing these basic needs. We need to collaborate and ensure that WASH services are inclusive.
Today is World Down Syndrome Day! Read Jeseph's short story below. 👇
Let us continue to build a better world where children and adults with disabilities enjoy their rights and are meaningfully included in society. ❤️
Jeseph is a 7-year-old boy from Cebu City. He has Down syndrome. At the age of two, he can only articulate one to two syllables. And he was only able to walk at the age of five. He was a shy kid who often needs assistance in doing his activities.
Through NORFIL Foundation, Inc., his mother, Jocelyn learned more about his condition, his rights as a child, and how to take care of him. With NORFIL's home program, Jeseph's daily living and socialization skills improved. 👍 In fact, attending NORFIL's seminars encouraged Jeseph’s mother to enroll him in a daycare center, which they were initially afraid to do.
Jocelyn realized that she should not put her son in a box by restricting him to stay at home all the time. She allowed Jeseph to grow, develop, and experience things on his own with proper guidance. 👩👦
Unexpected disasters can be very stressful to us. In order to significantly reduce the initial distress caused by these events, Psychological First Aid (PFA) sessions are conducted to help the affected individuals cope.
In this photo, we see children gathered around a table creating art works to help express their emotions regarding last year’s typhoon. This PFA session is a part of the Typhoon Goni response led by our CBM partners in Bicol to provide psychosocial support to those who were affected by the typhoons last year.
Did you know that storytelling can help children recover from any difficult experiences early on in life? Here we have a CBM partner staff telling stories to children who are still enduring the impact of COVID-19 and various typhoons that hit the Bicol region. Sorytelling is one form of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) intervention, which is provided by CBM and partners to several communities that are still reeling from the effects of Typhoon Goni. 📚
Another Monday, another week of work and classes.
Note to self: Let's take it one step at a time! It's not a race. It's okay to set your own pace. ❤️
