Practicing intention over perfection.
Anyone else trying to up their protein this year? As someone who naturally prefers fruits and veg, I have always had to be mindful of incorporating enough protein into my diet. It’s not always easy and I get tired of eggs and chicken FAST. But this year I am determined to be intentional about my protein needs and for me that means prioritizing a high protein breakfast every day!
However you have arrived here to this moment, I am so happy you are here. The moments and emotions of the last year are vast and varied, but you have made it to NOW. You are strong, capable, and worth the very best. Happy New Year!!
Eyes closed, sun on my face, in my happy place… ✌🏽

Our favorite quick granola! This is a perfect base for any amount of imagination! Change up the dried fruits or nuts used. Add some seeds! Switch the corn flakes for puffed rice cereal. SO many possibilities!

Since we are all well aware that perfection is… well, unrealistic at best, why do we continue to beat ourselves up when we can’t attain it? When it comes to forward momentum and achieving goals being INTENTIONAL will always win out over striving for perfection.
Where can you let the expectation of perfection go today? Where can you implement intentional choices?

Our ability to listen to our actual needs over our immediate wants is an exercise just like any other muscle group we are trying to build. Bit by bit, moment by moment. Asking yourself if the choice you are making now is based on a need that furthers your wellness and health goals or a want to satisfy the emotions of the moment.

Walking into this week with intention.

The next rhythm I would love to encourage you to incorporate into your day is a post-work rhythm. The moments after our work day concludes NEEDS to be defined.
You are entering into the next part of you day, and in as much as possible, we need to leave the workday behind us. Making a conscious effort to transition to the second part of your day makes a huge difference.
Unless we learn to turn that switch off, we tend to carry our stresses with us and never completely leaving work mode!
There is more to life than our 9-5. Make the transition each day to move into that other part!

This month I will be focusing on simple rhythms to add in to your week to encourage balance, wellness, and simplicity.
This week, let’s simplify that morning routine. I know manny of us find mornings to be hectic. These six simple practices can be done in 30 minutes or less (depending on your makeup routine and your evening routine).

Taking the time to intentionally enter a new month can be the difference between feeling like an active participant in your life and someone who life seems to just be happening to. There many things that may come up outside of your control, but that’s all the more reason to set your intentions at the start of it.
1. Reflect: this is where a gratitude practice or journaling comes in handy. Taking time to look back over your notes from the month (or even looking back over your calendar) can give you some great insights.
2. Plan: Think through what matters most to you this month - more sleep? eating out less? time outside?
3. Prep: This is a great time to take care of those little tasks that tend to get continually carried over to the next day’s to-do list. Take care of them and check off those boxes!

The highway of diet and wellness culture in itself is a tangle of exits, turnoffs, roundabouts, and shortcuts claiming to be the right (or fastest) route to weight-loss.
Unfortunately, this over-complicated rollercoaster combined with society’s twisted standards of health has led to us having no faith in our own decision making and autonomy in our health and nutritional choices.
So before trying yet another diet, plan, protocol, cleanse, take time to evaluate your relationship to food.
Emotionally. Mentally. Physically.
Look back on your history with food and exercise to see your triggers, what your goals have been, your habits, your motivations. Have they served as escapes? Punishments? Rewards?
Does your relationship with food and exercise align with the self-care, longevity, mobility, clarity, and compassion that you deserve?

Let’s simplify getting a healthy meal on your plate!
If you love cooking and trying new recipes, that’s great! But if you just need to get dinner on the table and work with what you’ve got in the fridge already then here’s your game plan for a healthy and delicious meal!

Happy first day of February!
With a new month comes the wonderful opportunity to reflect on the past month as well as take a time to intentionally plan for the weeks ahead.
Here are just a few prompts to get you started!

Remembering that what is on your plate is only a portion of what is contributing to your overall health. There are many aspects of the health equation that do not appear on you plate.

The thing is, there are MANY foods that boost mood. This is just a small handful of ones that are easy to incorporate. Nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated… if it came from the earth (and not a factory) chances are it’s going to make you feel good!
I will always be here calling on everyone to practice self-care every.single.day. In some form, we need to be showing up for ourselves each day.
And while scheduling it in is a great plan. Sometimes, its about turning inward and deciding what our body is telling us it needs TODAY. So yes, we can schedule a monthly massage or commit to a nighttime skin routine (both are great). But if what your body needs is a great stretch, pull out that yoga mat (even if it wasn’t in the plan). Lay down for a nap (even if you can only spare 10 minutes), if that is what your body is craving.
Self-care can take a thousand different forms. What matters is if we are listening to our bodies and fulfilling the current need.
Intentional living starts with deciding where your time and energy will be spent.

Eating seasonally and locally is the ideal way to ensure that you are getting the most nutrient dense produce. And when it comes to winter, keeping our immune system strong (through these nutrient rich foods) is essential.
I encourage you to see how you can put a few of these delicious foods to use this week!

These three simple food swaps pack a powerful punch.
Giving up sweets after years of massive sugar intake can feel impossible. So start by substituting with natural sweeteners like honey or pure maple syrup.
Conventionally farmed meat and dairy comes loaded with antibiotics, steroids, pesticides, and toxins. All of which cause a host of health concerns.
Pasta is a standard part of the the American diet. So instead of trying to remove something that has been a part of your diet for most of your life, try swapping out for a healthy pasta alternative - and don’t be afraid to load those pasta bowls with lots of extra veggies!

New Blog Post!
These days there are no shortage of labels aiming to convince you of the best version to purchase. Organic, free range, cage free, pasture raised, animal welfare approved.. and I’m sure a few others I’ve forgotten. While these labels are helpful, they are not always exactly clear.
Head over to my blog to learn a little bit more about what all these labels mean! Link below and in bio!
If you’re looking for great eggs in the DC metro area, our family has been buying eggs from for years. My kids love that they get to see the chickens (and feed the goats) while we pick up the eggs from the store.
So, as always, shop local and don’t be afraid to ask all your questions!!
